RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
OK so I wqill ask it here anyway.
I have a sato82 and cannot!!!!! keep the muffler tight. I have used blue thread lock then went to red thread lock still will not stay tight.
I have heard of a flexible extension and mounting the muffler somewhere remotely, can anyone give me some pointers on doing this or some way of keeping the muffler tight.
I have had other satos and some minor problems with keeping the muffler tight but blue thread lock always took care of, not this motor. The other motor I had a problem with was a sato 100 about 6 years ago, it was noted for excesive fibration.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
G'day. I have 12 working Saitos. I have only rarely had a muffer come loose. I recommend you try different props and different engine mounts. I suspect you have a resonance problem and that if you change the mount or the prop you may fix it quite easily. I also use a small amount of castor oil in my fuel. This tends to gum up the threads on the mufflers and stops them unscrewing. I also find that Saitos mounted in metal mounts work best. The "power pulse" from these engines is quite powerful but only comes every second rotation and this seems to add to the vibration problem. My Saitos which are in metal mounts seem to vibrate less. A Saito 100 will fit in an OS 91 Surpass mount perfectly.

Thanks Mike
Will the 82 fit the OS 91 Surpass mount?
This thing is driving me crazy. I have been out of RC for about 6 years and have recently got back into it. Nothing but bad luck with this motor the other Satos I have had were never any problem, that is why I went with Sato this time.
Have you had any experience with the flexible pipe and a remote mount for the motor?

My trick is to run the engine and let it warm up. Kill the engine and with gloves on hands, tighten the muffler nut and header nut while they are still very hot. I have the Saito 82A, 1.80, 2-1.25's .90 twin and 3.00 twin and have never lost a muffler. Also on the larger engines......82 and up use a metal motor mount, not the glass filled or nylon mounts.

I just stumbled across this nice write up on Jim's TurboHeaders. It goes right along with what we've been saying about them here in the Club Saito. Good Show Jim.

I have a question for all of you Saito Experts, I am in the beginning
process of installing a Saito 100 in a 65 1/2'' P-51 Mustang, plans are
to order one of Jim's Turbo Mufflers for the engine, and I would really
like to put a 4-bladed prop on this engine. I am currently looking at
the Zinger 4-blader with replaceable blades. My question is to get this
engine to turn up the RPM to operate at it's peak performance what
size and pitch prop would you guys recommend I go with on this aircraft?
Engine is well broken in at this time and previously would turn a Master Airscew
15-8 @ 9800 RPM and a 16-6 @ 9500 RPM on 15% nitro with stock muffler
I have never run a higher nitro % in this engine and this engine has never
been cowled.
Expected weight of aircraft when finished including air retracts is around
the 9 lbs. mark. Engine will be installed inverted with a glow driver.
All opinions will be evaluated to come up with a good starting point.

I am really amazed if a Saito FA-100 can spin a 16x6 at 9.500rpm

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hello guys:
I'm looking for an engine to pull a 120 pattern plane, I said that the SAITO[sm=cool.gif] 125 will be OK, but my son says that is not enough power and I got to choose the OS 120 AX.

Are you closing the carb barrel when you fuel the tank? Is the vent line unclogged? The only difference between the T fitting and the separate clunk line is convenience, the same pressures are created in the system. It sounds like your vent line is obstructed so that the fuel is being forced into the carb, and filling the cylinder with fuel and causing hydraulic lock which causes the piston not to pass go and collect $200.00.
Over and out. Good luck.

I'd love to have several of them, but the price is ridiculously high. No offense to Jim is intended, but it is time to get real.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I looked at one bought for a Saito 180 and there are no baffles or obvious cone type tuning restrictions visable. How different are these than a straight pipe with a little crimp at the end to provide "muffler" pressure. Again, no disrespect intended, as the Turboheaders are nice looking, but.......
Sincerely,
Richard

Ed,
We would love to have the price down. Have you priced any custommachining? Not to mention welding and heat treating. The TurboHeader is not a thin welded piece of aluminum like most. You really don't know the advantages until you have experienced it yourself. No offense taken.
Jim

I have bought a few of Jim's mufflers and I think they are a great value. They have shown no signs of wear and they don't seem to loosen constantly like the oem mufflers I have used.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hey guys, thanks for the saito thread, i fly nothing but saito engines in every plane i have, i have a total of 43 saito motors and still buying more, I'm also pretty darn good with technical info on saitos, so if any one needs any help post it here, i just got my hands on the FG-30, haven't ran it yet but I'll post on how it goes
RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
solarviper: Here is one for you. I have been running Saito engines for a long, long time on PowerMaster fuel. 15% Nitro, 18% oil (synthetic/caster). My local hobby shop says PowerMaster has gone under. He recommended Cool Power which is 25% nitro and 18% synthetic oil (no caster). What will I need to do to the carb adjustments, if anything. And how are my Saito engines going to run?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
that's exactly what i run in everyone of my saitos is either 25% or 30% heli fuel with an OS F plug, every once in awhile i run out of fuel at my club and have to use someone else s, i found that usually only the high speed needle needed some minor tuning but because of the extra oil in heli fuel it may be necessary to turn the low needle too, but not much, saitos and ys seem to really love the high nitro fuel, much better idle and better throttle response is the main difference i see

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
i found that using the above set up with glow plug and fuel, i swing a 18x6 vess very well for 3D flying and for general aerobatics and speed i use a 17x4, both those props have served me very well with my saito 180's
