Electric Retracts
Hi guys,
what are thoughts on the quality and reliability of Robart electric retracts for the Giant Scale P47? I read some fairly negative reviews back in 2015. Was just wondering what the collective opinion is now... should I go with pneumatics instead???
Tganks in anticipation.....

I built the razorback version of that plane because my brother was doing one, wanted to fly together. I used the Robart electrics for gear. They fit, set up was easy and they worked good in flight. I am a Mustang fan, so going to the tame P 47 with electric motor for power was disappointing. A drive system that worked great in a Mustang airframe didn't work well in the high drag Jug, flight times in the mustang were 8 minutes + reserve, dropping to 4 minutes in the Jug with no reserve for a missed approach. I planned to change to gas power for duration, but I got a good offer for the plane and sold it to a fellow club member. He put a gas engine in and is happy with it. The electric gear work fine for him. The squadron markings are of the 15 kill jug that Gabreski was flying before D day. I had to use the thin wheels provided in the kit, no aftermarket wheels fit in the shallow wheel wells without surgery.

My pneumatic retracts in the TarHeel Hal are about 8 years old. I had a problem with the airtank spinning and tying the airline into a knot. Certainly not the fault of the system, and cured with a bit of Shoe Goo adhesive on the tank where it touched the cradle. I did add a few drops of Bob Violett's airlube to the system but that was a maintenance step.
All-in-all, a reliable system.

P47 wing modification - scale landing gear orientation
Hi guys,
ages ago I remember seeing that someone had modified the wing spar in the Topflite Giant Scale P47 to allow for scale landing gear orientation. I can’t find it anywhere now. Does anybody recall who did it and signposting to the thread would be much appreciated! 😎
