the carb mounting lug on the alloy back plate sits a mill or so further out and a couple or so millimeter when using the inlet stack causing the inlet tube flange/washer to sit away from the cylinder inlet ''o''-ring requiring at least 3 flange washers at cylinder end to snug up.

I would do some careful comparisons at disassembly?

Yes and the part number is SAI82B32 $4.50 (out of stock)
I took the card board identification card from the back plate package and made a gasket for the back plate.
You will have to have a gasket or the back plate will hit the crankpin.
The thickness of the carb mount was .004" less than that of the plastic back plate I removed
The intake manifold position in the cylinder head was a perfect fit.

Yes that's the one nice colour scheme too.Flying characteristic descriptions are accurate and it will do the steepest sideslips. The 30 sounds awesome in it when you see how it flys, hope one of you over there do it.Unfortunately there is no larger tri-motor version as far as i know

Thanks for the heads up. It should be straight forward to file down the carb attachment point on the rear cover to line things up. I wonder why there is a variation since the cylinder, crankcase and intake manifold are the same? The good news is that it only costs $9.50. Did you say that no gasket is used between the new rear cover and crankcase?
Thanks,
Phillip

Bye all means, check it for yourself.
There does appear to be a difference in carburettors between the A and B versions of the 82 as the part numbers of both carbs are different
"A" SAI82A831
"B" SAI91S821D
Which would account for the anomally.
82B's i've seen do not appear to have a gasket between backplate and crankcase.I could be wrong there as i have not physically had one apart.
Reason for edit:additions including master gasket type number

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The 72A/82A had no gasket but the "B" models do.
There's no reason why you cannot use a little Permatex anaerobic sealer there because Horizon does not have the gasket yet

Hey gang,
I'm getting a Kyosho P-51D 90 that has an OS 1.20AX in it. I LOVE my Saito 100 Hellcat! I have a McDaniels glow driver in the Hellcat, and that 100 just spins up and starts with absolutely zero fuss, and purrs like a kitten. Sounds great in-flight, too. So, I'm thinking I'd like to put a Saito in the P-51.
What would be a good size Saito to install in place of the 1.20AX? Not that the 1.20AX isn't a good motor, I've just gotten to where I really like the 4-strokes.
Thanks,
Sluggo

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I just pulled the plastic one out and put the AL one in and it runs super and everything just bolted right up (with a change of carb bolts). After reading this I am not sure why.

I just went and checked the plain 72 I have and it is just as I said, but at the same time as I did the plain engine, I did it to a GK that I got off the internet and it was the same way and it too runs great. Just the luck of the draw I guess.

I just bought my first Saito, it is not even here yet. Its is a 100, I am planning to put on a P51 0.6. My first 4C so I am looking forward. Do I qualify for the Saito club?

I run Wildcat Premium Extra 15% Nitro (18% total oil) in my 100. Seems to do just fine, too...but maybe it's overkill. On the other hand, a guy in my club keeps telling me I need to be running 30% heli.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Saito engines respond well to the Y-S 20-20 fuels and also the 30 Heli fuels. They just love it and it doesn't hurt them
But Saito engines run nice on 10% too and they get better fuel economy with the 10%.
If you are into 3D, maybe you want to run 30% nitro?
I have a Saito 125 on a 60 size H9 Twist and it doesn't need high nitro fuel.

BTW, I heard you need to run these motors with 30% heli fuel, any truth to this??

A Saito 125
A Saito 125
I have never ran an OS 1.20AX two-stroke, but it would have to be a real dog of an engine to be replaced by a Saito 1.25 four-stroke and still provide the model with equal performance. You sound like you're being led to the dark side by a mutual friend. (smile)
I'll say it again, you need more cubic inches in a four-stroke to equal the output of a two-stroke, not including the YS four-strokes which are supercharged (wink).
Now, if you know this fellow and he constantly flies around at 1/2 throttle or less, the Saito 1.25 might be okay.
