RE: KMP F-7F Tigercat
Grossy, interesting to hear you are using SY props. I had one on a ESM Skyraider powered by a Evo 26. Flew ok but never seemed to really get up to speed and the motor sounded like it was reving it nuts off. Swapped to a 2 blade 26x8 and suddenly it found some speed and the rpm dropped by about 200. I wonder if the SY prop is more like a 26x6 or even less? I find many of the cheaper props are either not the pitch they say or different pitch along the length of the blade. Means an inefficient prop. Addmittedly for a twin the difference will be less, esspecially on so grossly overpowered (yeay baby!)...
I must admit, the SY props are cheap and tough - very hard to break.....!

... Looks to be just structial failure, oversize bolt for the job that weekened the strut where it attached to the nose assembly.

I'll give the SY 16X8 3 blade a try. They look great, but if to slow I will swap over to the 16X8 2 blader. It's good to have power to spare......
Just go an email from ESM. They are willing to send me a replacement NLG retract and Oleo. Mind you I have to pay the shipping cost, but still better than having to buy a brand new set.
I'm hoping that mine was a unique probelm and the next set will be able to do the job.
I'll let you all now how it goes.
Cheers

I'm having a lot of trouble getting a colour to match. Anybody know where I can get some paint or covering??
I ordred some form Klass Kote, but it's total wrong. Have a look.

Most automotive paint shops can colour match for you. We have one here that even puts it into a spray can for you. You might want to try that.

Sorry for the negative outcome on your first attempt.
Hate to say we told you so but, we told you so!!!
I've spent a fortune on Sierras for my KMP birds, but one thing I have NO worries over is whether the gear will operate every time.
The ESM/KMP originals are all îš and they know it.
Designed for 60-sized singles, they are overwhelmed on a 28-lb Twin Warbird. Ive got MANY pictures of gear just like yours.
Shame on them for selling junk

Hi Tigercat Guys. Flew my Tigercat at IMAA West Coast Festival over the weekend. Many GREAT flights with Super Speed with all gear doors up and both Fuji 23s humming. I had many, many complements about the Speed and Smooth flying of my Tigercat. It's sure a crowd pleaser. Here is a picture of my Tigercat on the starting line ready to take the runway. Col. Hi Doug, I have many many posts on this Tigercat Forum. If you go to page 23, Post 565 you can see my Clamshell door set up. I also have my main door set ups on other pages. I also give instructions on mixing paint to match your Tigercat. I have made some minor up dates to stiffen linkage to my gear doors. I fly my Tiger Ball-Out and don't hold back on anything. Check out my Center Wing Section strengthening modification. Col. Chuck Winter

RE: KMP F-7F Tigercat
Well I maiden mine on the weekend. It needs a little tweaking......
The 3 blade props are no good, not enough speed. I will swapping to 16x8 2 blades.
To much EXPO, very soft around the middle. Also I think I need to add some rudder mix in with the Ail. Anybody doing this already?
Will need to add some more up mix on the elev with flap. Landed with 1/2 flap and came down like brick. Just did not flair.... Under carrage held up, but damaged the wings. I had the wings so I could pull it apart if required. I use 1/4" locating dowls between the inner wing, engine pods and outer wings. The hard landing snapped the dowls and damaged the inner wing. I'll have to de skin, strength and repair. I'll epoxy the inner and engine pods togeather this time.
The GF26 sounded great with the twin sync working well.
It's a diffrent beast to fly. I thing I just need to get use to it. Flying to many Aerobat's and not use to fly a brick.
Cheers

What 3 blades were you using? I have zenoa g-26 EI and planned on turning 16x8 3 blades
My first one had g20s and 14x9 3blades and it moved along nicely.

I was using SY 16x8 3 Baldes.
Blades a little soft, so dont know if that did not help.
Anyway, they looked good, but i will be going to SY 16X8 2 Blade, better pull and more RPM.
Cheers

RE: KMP F-7F Tigercat
From memory I used about 5% down elevator mixed to flap. I have the flaps down as far as possible but also do a steep approach. Never had a problem with not enough elevator so maybe check your CofG - it may be a bit forward.
I wouldn't mix aileron to rudder. I find that there is a huge amount of roll couple with rudder input, probably due to the mid wing and lots of dihedral. Its one of the few planes that I stay off the rudder in flight, even doing 4 point rolls. I also only have 30% expo. Its a pretty soft airframe to fly, like many warbirds, but it does have a high wing loading so when it bites, watch out!
Still the coolest plane I own, and I have over 30! Keep the engines in tune and fly it with authority and it will give you many hours of pleasure. I love mine. The best part is its never really finished. Putting in dummy radials soon, and maybe a cockpit kit... will see.

CRJ is right. Also anything smaller and you will need to add nose weight so you might as well increase your engine size. No point in carrying around lead if you can help it.

RE: KMP F-7F Tigercat
Last weekend a couple of mates came down from Auckland as our club was having a bit of a warbird day. Its a sickness this hobby, as between the 3 of us we managed to take 22 planes to the strip! Madness
Anyhew, we decide to have a bit of a photoshoot with just the ESM planes there. Here are the results...
Yes, we had 2 Tigercats and a P40 up at the same time. Sounded incredible. We did get some video. Will be on YouTube in the next week or so. Will link once its there.
The weather was incredible! Mid winter with not a breath of wind, zero or high cloud, and fairly warm. So good we flew for 3 days straight! Now we are back to wet and windy - oh well...
