RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Getting ready for the SAM OLD champs on the June long w/end and curses I have had to use cap headed self tapers to secure my extra special Taipan 2.5 Diesel (an original) to its plastic mount in a Burford comp model A cosmo clipper for those who care
The Lanzo Bomber with the Saito 65 (properly secured to Saito metal mount) is giving me 7 minutes engine run on an allocated 15 mils of 10% fuel at around 4500 to 5000rpm with an APC 14 x 8 and tuned for Duration (vertical drag racing, a timed event) the same model / engine combination with a 13 x 6 Bolly carbon fibre (own design) is turn as close as you could get to 13,000 on 20% nitro 20% synthetic heli oil (low viscosity) My little Irivine 21 powered Bomber with Irvine stinger on FAI fuel and a 10 x 6 prop (Bolly) is turning about 16500 RPM up here (I expect a 10% increase in Brisbane cooler).
It will be a Saiot attack year this year I am giving the YS's a rest

Hello Club Saito members,
Back on post #19796 I asked for help with replacing bearings in my FA 100 Saito. Earlwb responded with a couple of instructional videos. They were just what I was in need of. Anyway, I replaced both bearings yesterday. Today I finished reassembling the motor. This afternoon I ran the motor and OH BABY it runs awesome !
THANK YOU CLUB SAITO !!!!!!!!!!!! Proud to be a member ! [sm=teeth_smile.gif]

Check the O-rings on both ends of the intake tube. Also that the little metal ring is pushing the O-ring on the head end in.

Jim, I broke this FA .40 out of its box to mount on my RCM 40. I chose a MA K12.5x5, those K props are growing on me. Total run time on this engine is about 1.5 hours. About 30 minutes of that is flight time.
Saito FA .40
WildCat 15% with 18% 80/20 blend
Fox Miracle plug
Master Airscrew 12.5x5
RPM===9,550
Idle 1,975 but better at 2,100
Exhaust===TurboHeader, no comparison to stock since stock was a straight pipe which I no longer have.

Club Saito Bi-laws clearly state on page 16 of the our members hand book "Those with only one Saito engine has to have to provide proof over ownership of a .91 or larger engine."
Ok.....Im just pulling your leg!
I only have one Saito, and was welcomed with open arms... in a heteral kind a way!
Welcome..

I had a problem with my Saito 125 where it would die when rapidly closing the throttle in flight. Chased everything. Finally figured it out on a different plane. Cheap Throttle Servo. Never again.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I am heading to frosty Brisbane at the end of next week. Talked to my mentor and I am going to acquire an 82 and slot it into his 1/4 scale Sig Cub and see how it goes. The model wiighs about 15 pound with a 120 OS (old one in it). Said mentor has a big GP Decathlon with a 91 in it that performs ok he says so one way or another I'll have an answer to my dilima about an engine for the Reliant.
BTB the new Saito 82 puts out almost as much grunt as the OS 120 or the 90's era so HP wise they are as near the same as I would want. Big difference is weight and the Saito is lighter and with the modern radio gear I expect bigger savings so weight is definitely going down which is good
As an aside it is freezing here 14 degrees C at 0600hrs but is warmiong up now 21 so a reasonable day ahead

Doesn't that drive you nuts? Servo/radio problems and poorly engineered linkage can cause the best of us lots of frustration. I'm glad you discovered your problem.

Well, the new servo certainly helped the deadsticks. Now the idle is hanging after revving. Then after a few seconds it is returning to normal. I''ve got the low end adjusted perfectly. Certainly not a huge problem, but do you guys think it might be an air leak at the O-Ring for the intake tube? I have not removed the cowl to inspect it....

Where I spent the first fifty years of my life in NJ, I was as close as 600 feet to two separate tornadoes and within a mile or so of a funnel cloud (tornado not contacting the ground). Down here in Georgia, I've only been within three to four miles of one confirmed tornado, but that was an EF-4 and not the dinky EF-0 and 1 tornadoes in NJ. The difference between the dinky Jersey tornadoes and the street scrubber EF-4 and 5 tornadoes is awesome.
I'm inland quite a bit in Georgia, whereas I was right at the mouth of the Delaware Bay when in NJ. In the latter locale, Hurricanes (Cyclones) were no laughing matter. However, the remains of hurricans that make it as far North as where I'm at in Georgia do bring tornadoes, so there is no getting away from some of the violence.
I forgot that you folks in the southern latitudes are in Winter now. Do you get snow where you are at in Australia?
Oh, gotta keep it on topic (what IS the topic?)

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Man if it snowed here in Cairns I would pack up and move to PNG. However they do have snow well to the south of us in Victoria and Tasmania and southern New South Wales. Me I stay away from the stuff. When it snowed in Victoria it used to indicate the start of deer hunting season and for those of you interested we have some 5 species of deer here in OZ.
Back on topic stalling servos. My mentor almost lost a "Swayback" the other day. Saito powered and the throttle over travelled (actual throttle apparently) the servo stalled and drained the battery. Old Timers glide well so no tears however and this is the biggie. The battery would not hold a reliable charge after that and is now consigned to the bin. It is an unspoken rule amongst Vintagents club members that incidents such as this require (a) Servo is junked (b) the battery is binned (c) the receiver is either junked or sent away for checking by reliable radio repair station.

In a new aircraft I was having problems with a servo not centering and moving randomly. Thought it was the servo, changed still had the problem. Finally traced it to a new reciever that didn't like the elevator. Never had that happen before. I need to mention that this was on a Twin Otter, powered by 2 Saito fa40a's so that the Saito Gods don't get me.
