I imagine the Saito 82 in a Sig Rascal will give some serious performance. I have a Rascal and I had an old 40 and then a weak 52 4-stroke in it for general sports flying. I think a Saito 56 would be enough, an 82 will be crazy.

Did the $300 also include servos? That is an awesome deal when you consider that the Rascal airframe alone cost $220. I bought mine 4 years ago before the price increase. Along with the Tower discount at the time, I got it for $185. They were a pricey ARF, but worth it.

i was looking at the Saito FG-14 Gasoline Engine (82G). the Walbro/Saito Carburetor stick's out more than the nitro Carburetor . im thinking maby it will hit the motor mount. were the mount bolts to the fire wall . or dose it clear ? not the motor mount that come's with it.
the motor mount that is in place from the nitro motor. i was looking at the one that comes with it . its is nice but it is heaver than the hanger9

I have a 72 thats about 3 years old and always worked fined but for some reason I could not get it to run under 5k rpms. The only way to do it was to keep the ignitor on but as soon as I removed it died. I tried new glow plug with no success. I haven't flown this plane for a little over a month now and I don't know if that can affect the engine. I tried to adjust the LS without success but I think that by know if too out of place, could anyone tell me what is the factory setting for the low speed needle so I can reset it.

If its a plastic throttle arm set it about 1/16th inch inside the flat surface of the throttle, if it is a metal arm set it even with the end of the throttle barrel. Its easiest to set the LS with the HS needle at absolute peak. If you attempt to set the LS needle with the HS rich you end up chasing the needles all over the place. It will end up about where this one is.

The Saito 200R3 is a very sweet motor and very forgiving. I set the initial high end at 4 turns out so the first 5 minutes would be very heavily lubricated. The motor started right up after using the built-in primer spout at the carburetor’s opening.
I am using the McDaniel ignition system so did not notice the #3 cylinder going cold at low RPMs. I did however test it after I ran the 4th 10 minute break-in run because of what I had read here. I removed the ignition system and started the engine with a glow starter; one cylinder at a time. The motor started at ~2500 RPM setting just as easy as if it were on all three. Then you just walk the igniter to the other cylinders (very carefully) and start the other two. I used an IR temperature gauge to judge who was running and how well. #1 and #2 ran between 150-170 degrees Fahrenheit depending on RPM. #3 would shut down and go to 90-110 after an idle below 2100 RPM. I could be running a little rich which could have caused this. I am running now at ~2-1/4 turns on the High Speed needle. All I know for sure is that problems with #3 never occurred with the ignition system. I now have the ignition set to come on at 1/3rd throttle and less and I’ve flown 6 flights (10-12 minutes each) without an issue.
I have several Saito radials and use an ignition on all of them. I never worry about an ignition on the singles even the 46 seems to work fine after started.

Hi jim your comments are interesting.Looking at the front of the engine and lets say that the lower right cylinder is number one,the top cylinder number two and so on..they run lean to rich in that order going by feel on the rocker covers re heat.I'm running the hsn at 1.75 turns out for a max of 8300 peaked at 8600.Will look forward to see how the engine settles down with some more fuel thru it,cheers

I'm having some difficulties getting my older model Fa80 tuned. Using this method, with a metal arm...
... there appears to be a rather large gap, between the end of the LS needle, and the open end of the spraybar. It looks to be about a sixteenth to three-thirty-seconds of an inch (see diagram). In order to get anywhere close to a lean-ish low-end, I have to turn the LS needle in a long way. Do I have an equipment problem? Approximately how much of a gap does yours have, when tuned properly?

One thing I learned is that the Sig covering does mess up after a while due to exposure to nitro exhaust (I used to have a 2-stroke engine in it). It is not one-layer like Monokote or Ultracote. I am having to re-cover the whole nose area. The tail covering also faded, but it's not peeling off.
I guess a good thing about having a Saito in it, being a 4-stroke, the exhaust won't be blasting directly on the covering and ruining it so bad.

It didnt do anything for performance but it did help with fuel ecomony,
on my 1.00
Some less fuel spray in the cowl too.

That's not a real velocity stack. The mouth of the stack should be considerably larger and the contour is very important. I did a stack into my radial Saito and power went up by 10 % after adjusting the needles.

As I indicated, my starting point, with the end even with the throttle barrel, my gap is much wider than yours.
Will start closer to your pic, and go from there.
