Got my 83" Tigercat going a couple of months ago. On my 7th flight now and love it. Thinking about building another and put dle 55s in it my current one has Fuji 43s in it.

I have started to work on my cat and will install DLE 20RA's. I plan to make it as light as possible and would like to use just the inner flaps. Has anyone here done so and if so how did it work out? Thanks.

Hi, It's a CHALLENGE to make this Tigercat lighter if you are putting in all the landing gear doors and pilot's in the cockpits, etc .etc. I would not eliminate the inner flaps, you need all the flap area to slow down on final and have control stability. I even have Droop Ailerons (10%) down when I have Full Flaps selected. If you are only flying off grass you can get-away landing a little FAST, but if you fly off Hard Surface short runways you need a controlled slow speed airplane. My Tigercat with fuel weighs 32 lbs. I wish it was lighter, but thats what is, and I have to live with it. I have flown it

Thanks for the reply Col. I was thinking of using the inner flaps and eliminating the outer ones? I have sourced carbon tubes lighter wheels etc. plus I will not be using any doors as well. I have always built light and this has turned into a project to see just how light I can get it by removing material where it is not needed i.e. lightening holes etc. I will be using two DLE 20RAs. Our field has both hard surface and grass but I admit I prefer the hard surface.

My Tigercat is the early KMP all composite. I got it from a friend partly built. I put the switches air and fuel in the rear canopy. The receiver and twin sync are on top of the wing and all the batteries are in the nose. Its powered by 2 YS 170FZ engines and has one 40 once fuel tank in the fuselage on the cg to cut down on rolling mass. It weighs 28 lbs with out fuel.

Looking good! Is your canopy held on with magnets. My cat weights 33lbs and it lands really easy so weight is not a issue with this plane. I do use full flaps on landing, my flaps at full are about 75 degrees. I have 4 of my flights posted on utube if you want a idea how it lands. Ive flown many twin planes and this by far is the best flying twin that Ive ever flown. Now that flying season is over Im hooking up the smoke system and doing the cockpit detail. When are you planning on flying your cat?

The canopy is held on with magnets. I do have 3 flights on the Tigercat and your right about how well it slows down and lands. The first flight I set the propellers at 12 pitch and had the engines a little rich.
I trimmed at 1/2 throttle and when done had a lot of altitude so I did a down line at about 45 degrees to lose some altitude. My friend said what are you doing a flutter test. When I got home I down loaded the telemetry and the gps said that it hit 152 mph on that down line. Nothing fluttered off and magnets healed the canopy on just fine. Since then I dropped the pitch to 10 and engines are much happier and it does about 120 mph in level flight.

Hi Col. Chuck!
Glad the 'Cat is still ripping along well.
Looks like a good turnout for the event.
I love the Me-262 EDF. It is one of the best EDFs I've ever owned. Mine flies like a Kaos .40 it is so easy! Of course I had to change the ESCs, but after that its been perfect.
I hope to fly my T-cat again one day. It is set aside waiting for engine tunes on the G-26's.
Regards,
Wally
BTW.... I know you might be interested to know that there is an all-composite, very scale P/F-82 coming out in about 6-8months.
It will be about 100" and use a pair of .26 gassers or electric equivalents... I'm so stoked I cant WAIT!!!!!

Hi Tigercat Guys. My pictures in the above post where THERE and now they have been replaced by Attachments that don't open up. I will try again to Post some pictures.
Flew my Tigercat at Fresno War Bird Fly-In last Saturday. There were about 50 War-Birds of all sizes. Gasoline, Glow and Elec. I had the only twin engine there. Col. Chuck Winter .

That is a beauty with those Solo Props. I'd bet it RIPS with those 1.70's on APC props. I know mine with 1.20ACs was a really strong runner!
I haven't flown it since I switched them to G-26s....
Nice work Servo!

In an attempt to keep my ESM cat as light as possible I am contemplating using carbon push rods with elev. servos mounted farther forward rather than install them in the tail as the plans call for. As I indicated I will be using DLE 20 RAs. How much weight, if any at all, did those of you that are flying them now have to put in the nose for balance? Did you install the elev. servos forward in the fuse or in the stabilizer? Thanks.

Adding CF rods will only add weight and increase the moment about the tail.
There is no benefit, at most you will add slop to the elevators and decrease the control. Some of the builders have found that the rudder pull-pull cables are too sloppy and are moving the rudder servo to the rudder.

Dangaras- Thanks for the input. Are you flyng this aircraft and if so what is your setup? I have used carbon fiber rods with some builds in the past with no slop and had good success.
Any others out there?

Yes, I am flying the dullcoat version & it is all electric. Flies amazingly will except for rudder slop which appears as a tail waggle. 30lbs AUW.

I use a carbon push pull setup on my rudder that is attached to the outside edge of the rudder so everything is hidden. Then on the elevator I connect the two halves with a wire and in the center put a metal control horn then ran a carbon push rod to the servo. On all the carbon rods I have a ply support in the middle of the fus the rods run through to keep them from flexing. With this setup there is 0 slop on rud and elev. The cat balances perfect with no nose weight. I did spend 2 years building my esm, pretty mush modifiy everything. Filled in the lightening holes and glassed the wings and tail so I could paint them. Also added 64th in ply to trailing edge so there is no gap between control surface and wing/stab.

In my attempt to keep this airplane as light as possible and therfore avoid having to put weight in the nose as others have advised I am contemplating mounting the ignition module for the DLE 20RAs on the side of the motor mounts. I have done so in the past with larger birds by using 1/2" foam and velcroed them on the engine box next to the firewall. On the F7F I would mount them in the same fashion however the only place where they will fit is as I described and the module will be approx. 2"-3" from the side of the muffler. Your thoughts.

Finally got the smoke system installed on my Tigercat. This was with the smoke pump running very slow, next time I will speed up the pump and see if I get thicker smoke. But overall still very happy with the results.

Love it!
Give us some details on the system.
Watching the video Im not thinking you need to turn it up at all. Thatll just run you out quicker...
congrats on a great bird - and a well done video too!

I installed a 24 oz tank in the center part of the fuse along with a sky writer pump. I made a plywood box that the tank fits in. I put a T on the pump output to go to each engine. On the muffler I installed a gas line fitting that has a 1/8 in brass tubing that runs through the fitting into the chamber. With the 24 oz tank got about 1 min 10 sec of smoke.
