Nose.... 197mm top of strut to center of axel... wheel dia 90mm

main....142mm top of strut to bottom.... axel is then 5mm up from bottom wheel dia 115mm

My cat is sitting on the gear and a little hard to get at and measure. But the measurements should be close.

Mybe someone can measure them who hasn't installed them yet.

I hope this can help

Check with BigRetracts-RCU http://www.rcuniverse.com/community/...=1&memid=24049

he is developing and selling gear for this cat. I think around $650 but that is what I believe.

You can get the SPE engines from Cermark.net for about the same price and you won't have to go to Australia for warranty, parts and service.

Blue paint is going to drink in the direct sunlight like a sponge. I know it's not what you want
to here but I am sure it is not Epoxy Paint and it is going to want to de-gas some under the paint
layer and it's going to bubble. Looks like we will have to cover them with a white sheet at
the field. I have my wing in the sun now to see what happens. Will let you know.

I was already convinced to get one of these T-Cats' but not if it's got all these problems; I think I might hold out for the TopFlite B-25.

Andrew, you and Paul are being conspicuously absent from these KMP Tigercat forums. These are real issues that will need to be addressed. If you are looking for solutions for us great, if not let's work together so the problems get resolved and KMP looks like a customer focused comany not one just out to sell and then forget the customer.

Didn't see this before - it is a scratch build. but it comes in under 14 lbs...From Palmer.
We offer 2 sizes of the Grumman F7F-3 TIGERCAT. These plans were developed from original Grumman Aircraft Co. drawings, USAF documentation, & photos we took of a concours restoration completed at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, CA.
These plans are intended for the advanced modeler. Of conventional balsa & plywood construction, fully sheathed in balsa, it's features include full house R.C. operation, folding wing mechanism, & drawings of true scale struts for retracts. Plans show auxiliary fuel tank, bombs, & rockets. The span of the 1:7.5 airplane is 82.4", length is 72.66", & the wing area is 1158.95 sq. in.. The target weight is 13 lbs. 2.6 ounces, with a wing loading of 26.16 oz. per sq. ft. Power is supplied by a pair of O.S.. 60 PFs, or SAITO FA-80's, or 91's. The Instruction Manual includes "Dimensions and Aerodynamic Particulars" of the full size aircraft. Scale struts can be purchased from a special equipment supplier. The plans consist of 4-36"x 72" sheets. Price is $70.00 sold direct only. An enlarged version of this aircraft is available @ 1:6 scale with a span of 103", length is 90.83", & the wing area is 1820 sq." The target weight is 30 lbs, dry, with a wing loading of 30.04 oz. per sq.ft. Power is furnished by a pair of Webra Speed 120's. All other features are the same as the smaller version. Concerning the Dan Palmer's plans.
Note in the above post it says 'advanced modeler': take this literally.
I bought a Palmer F7F tigercat plane from a fellow pilot in the club and he gave me the plans.
It would take me two weeks just to 'decifer' these complex plans.
As you can see in the pictures, the 'guts' have thousands (literally) of pieces to cut.
This is not a set of plans for the 'weak at heart'! (which includes ME).
I don't remember how long he said it took to build it but the number was in years (not months).
As for 14 lbs weight that the plans suggest: getting an 83" WS twin to weigh that would be very difficult.
I'm guessing mine weighs around 23 lbs: which I'm happy with.

I did a little research to see if anyone makes kits of the Palmer's F7F and precision cut kits do.
They don't list their prices but it would be interesting to know the price: it seems like it would be very expensive (but worth every penny versus cutting it yourself).

BIG RCU, DID YOUR WING SURVIVE THE "SUN" TEST? I CONTACTED KMP AND THEY TOLD ME TO SEND SOME E-MAIL PICS OF THE BLISTERING AND TAKE IT FROM THERE. THE PLANE IS ABOUT 80% DONE, IT IS STUNNING TO LOOK AT ON IT'S GEAR. IT IS VERY MADDENING TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN, HOPE NO ONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM. [:@] ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO DEFLATE PAINT BUBBLES?

VKerster,

I set one of my wing panels out in the sun yesterday for about 1/2 an hour to see what would
happen. After about 20 minutes, I did get a few bubbles on the flap and alieron but none on the wing itself.
The surface was very hot to the touch as is was about 95 degrees here yesterday.

I will try letting the entire plane set in the sun on a little cooler day to try to de-gas the glass under the paint slowly.

Now, I only tried one wing panel so far. I'll see if the rest of the plane has similar reactions.

Until then.

Darrell

We cooled down from the 90s yesterday to the 70s today. I haven't even started assembly but i'll put the wing panels and center section out in the sun this afternoon and see what happens.

Okay, someone other than me must be starting to work on their TC's.... I have a question for those who have completed or close to completed the assembly. Does your kit have the Rudder pull-pull exits? The little wood blocks I imagine go vertical and they are used to extend the control surfaces out so they work properly?

I was told mine was just coming in a shipment now, are your paint troubles from this batch or an earlier batch?

After leaving my Tigercat in my garage assembled for three weeks, I was pretty optimistic about the paint staying put. I finally brought it out into the sun for the first time yesterday. Well, fifteen minutes was all it took in direct sunlight. It was 8:30 am and around 78 degrees. The entire left wing panel bubbled up. It has bubbles in the horiz stab and some in the rest of the wing. The top side of both nacells have what look like sink holes in them. I am pretty dissappointed in KMP. This is my first purchase from them. I have called about the landing gear problems on two different occasions and I have been told " I need to talk to the boss" Twice! never a phone call back. [sm=thumbs_down.gif] The nose gear doen not retract into the well fully. Same deal with the mains.

I was thinking about just stripping the entire airplane and re doing the finish properley,I could also get the Sierra gear, but that is not why I spent a thousand dollars. I spent a thousand dollars to get a twin into the air in a relitivly short amount of time.

So what does the modeling comunity do? I am getting real tired of claims from manufactures about thier products and what you get for your money is not always but pretty much junk. Poor quality , poorly designed poor craftsmanship junk. That has to be re-worked/re-done/re-engineered.................[:@]
If it was my trade I would want to put forth my best effort. Since I am not smart eneough to be a designer, and have limited opritunity to build, I count on the manufactures. Guess that could be the problem.

I don't think I will be doing buisness with KMP in the future, but hey they allready got a thousand bucks out of me. I will try and cool off and give them another call tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.

buyer beware...............
