Eventually I will need to upgrade to metal gears on my TT-01. Won't get them until mine are gone - But to prepare and budget for, have any links to cheapest prices for hop-ups?

Want cheapest price for metal diff gears / Aluminum Shaft & aluminum threaded shocks / Anything else later as it breaks.

Just took it out and ran one 6 cell pack through it. I love the long run times of a good quality brushless. Need to get some more PVC pipe for making a new set of drift wheels.

That's a lot of blue. [8D]

I got mine around Christmas but only started really running it recently. I used to swear by my Factory Team TC3. Hear is this all plastic everything with no hop-ups except bearings and plastic threaded shocks off my el-cheapo Colt10 and the TT-01 handles a lot better and easier to drive.

I only use the TT01D for Drifting with an Tamiya Super Stock TZ. With faster motors then 17T the car drives like Sh.... So I use for the circuit an TA05-R and TRF415 fully Alu and Carbon.

@ viperking111 Try Spur 55 and pinion 25

I just wanna use for for empty paking lots and streets ect. The car handles pretty good. I need better gearing asap. The stock ones have no top end at all. Imma give it a try and see what happens. I heard that the lowest turn motor to be used on the stock esc is 23t. I am running a 19 turn on the stock esc. Could this be the problem to no top end?

Yes this is an problem. The Esc can burn. It is not made for 19T motors. Better to get an 23T motor or an better Esc

I use an Super Stock TZ motor (23x3) this is a very good motor

are you leaving the mirrors and wing unpainted? it would take another can of silver (TS) but would finish it off nicely [8D]

hmmmm thats odd, ive been running it like this for a while and experienced no problems. yea, when i accelerate there is a clicking sound(either the cheap plastic shaft warping or the gears. it lasts for about a second and a half and then im at top speed

If it accellerates fast like that and reaches the top speed real qyuick then it can handle some more gearing. Use larger pinion and smaller spur to get more speed. More is better as long as it still has the power to pull the increased load, but is a good way to wear out motors.

It's actualy pearl white not silver. But yeah the mirrors & wing will most likely chip up so was debating on painting them or not. Was thinking if I paint them could use clear cote to help prevent chipping maybe. Dunno.

Was curious on the handling compared to using PVC pipe from DIY - I bought a set of the Tamiya drift wheels today. Hoping to try them out sometime this coming week.

Hey guys I have been looking for my next step in RC for a while and I have decided on a tt-01. I want to drift and go fast but on a budget. Also I'm a total electric noob so ya.

I have a few questions but first I will show you what I want

This is the car
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXHWN0&P=SM

From what I have read I will also need

Ball bearings
Alum prop shaft
Metal motor mount

I think I will upgrade the shocks later on

Then theres the stuff I want to make the car go fast

23 tooth pinion gear
Fast Motor

The only problem is I have no clue how to tell what motor is better or what will work in a TT-01. All I know is that the stock motor is good for 14000 ish RPM and this one here which looks cool is good for 27000 rpm

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGYS0&P=Z

Any advice on other upgrades or the best motor for the money would be appreciated [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

can you drive and handle the faster car?
Get a p2k2 motor or just a tamiya super stock rz/tz.
If you wanna drift and race with the car, then your gonna have a hard time, because drifting mean youll havta tighen diffs and thats no good for racing as your car will not steer and then when you least expect it, oversteer.

Those mods are very good. Just get the CVA Plastic Shocks with good springs and youll be fine.

But bearings and Alu shaft are musts on the tt01.
Run the stock 61 gear, but change the pinion to about 22 and its be prefect.

The carbon brace does help with chassis flex and makes the car very rigid from side to side, thus great for drifting as the arse end comes out real nice.

The stock Johnson (silver can motor) will actually be fine for drifting on PVC/PE/ABS tyres as most johnson 2 holes can reach 18000-19000 revs if run-in correctly (water dipping).
The TZ is a high torque motor and i us to run one for drifting and racing and it was fine, just mod the motor using motor bearings, softer brushes and stiffer springs.

Wow thanks for the info! I dont actually plan on racing just zipping up and down the road real fast but mostly drifting. I think I will start with the stock motor and work my way up to the faster one. I am used to the speed tho I have 2 nitro trucks they probably do 40ish mph (havent crashed yet! knock on wood ). I hope to do about the same speed with this car. I guess I will get that motor I posted above

Being new to electrics I have never heard of "water dipping" Could someone explain what it does and how it works. That would be greatly appreciated . Perhaps a link?

Actually I have a better Idea. I will get the spec D chassie from rcmart cause its cheaper than tower. Then I dont have to buy bearings and It comes with a "better" motor so I can just wait on the motor thing. And if I wait on the motor then I got enough green to get me a set of yeah racing shocks, turnbuckles, and a carbon upper brace.

I put the Tamiya Drift tires on and took it out. I still need more practice but the TT01 is a great handling car. I am stripping parts off my TC3 and will put it on EBay for parts.

ok, rather buy the tamiya tt01R and a body of your choice. Then get a decent ESC straight of the bat.
For drift tyres, tamiya's SUCK!! the HPI Type-T is a great tyres to use, otherwise get some ABS or Polyetheline tyres.

the stck silver can johnson is one of the motors you can water dip, but you might ruin the motor. the reason you use this method is becuase it run the motor in without wearing the comm and damagin it, also removes all junk while running the motor in using the water and its got just the right reistance fora almost perfect wear.

How to do it:
What you need: two C or D cell batteries (alkaline 1.5V each)
Join batteries in series to make one 3v cell.

Get a tub into which the motor will fit but the ends of the wires which you will conect to the batery must be outside the container.
Fill this tub with distilled water (tap can be used, but get distilled just in case)
Put in one and I MEAN 1(one) drop of dishwashin liquid.
Attach (tape) motor to batteries and let it run.
Submerge in the water for 5 minutes.
remove and unattach from battery
allow to dry completely in a dry area (so no rust will form)
remove water from tub and refill with clean water and ONE drop of dishliquid
repeat above steps about 3 times more, or till batteries are dead.

BE PATIENT!!
Whe done, relube the motor with some good oil (trinity oil does well) on both ends of the armature, with only a drop of oil (dont do this while wet)
Solder some thicker, better wire onto the motor and use deans plugs on the motor and esc.
And wha la. A johnson motor which will do 1000-2000 revs more than the stock can.
