JPEE,

Yeah, that's exactly what happened....is the see saw piece part of the head block? It doesn't show it separate in the exploded view?

Where did you end up getting new screws?

Were the bearings OK on yours?

Man, 30 MPH...and Nick is having a snow storm somewhere in his state...yikes!! It's supposed to be like 70 degees here tomorrow...LOL

Glenn,

Have you checked out the Compass Atom 500? If I remember correctly Finless said he liked that better than the T500. I am not saying the T500 is bad, just giving you some ideas in the mean time. The only problem with the Atom is parts availability. You won't be dissapointed in the GY401. I have heard that you almost need a standard size servo on the T500. It sounds like Jeff will be using his Futaba standard size servo for the tail. If I remember correctly it was a 9254 or a 9252. You could wait and see how he likes that. But the JR 3500G is a nice servo.

Yeah the storms are slowly coming this way. I heard that by 10 or 11PM tomorrow they will be in Lincoln. Then I will be able to fly over snow. LOL I couldn't blow any snow up last year since it all turned to ice.

JPEE,

Good to hear you got to make your adaptors for the MCX batteries.

Your lucky that you have 70 degree weather. Here it is in the 20-40 degrees.

JPEE ~

Yeah its been windy here lately also.... All the more reason to fly the MCX huh ?...

Glenn ~

Yikes.... Good find on the problem ! All the reason why I'am not all that ready yet to start in the 3-D stuff yet... I still have much to learn in just the basics... So how many times a day do you think about the 500 ?!... Just go hit the "buy now" button and be done with it...LMAO... I know... I know... I'am no help here...! LOl.... [8D] Oh but she's so pretty.... Even in the plastic individual bags wrapped with the parts on the floor here....

Nick,

Never heard of the Compass Atom...but if finless says it's good, I believe him! But I'll bet the parts are a nigthmare. I am having a hard enough time getting Eflite parts lately!

Yeah, I was looking into some Futaba servos as well. The 9254 looks good, but it says it's for larger helis. I also didn't like that the Futabas need 4.8 volts, and they are not OK with 6 volts...I am not familiar with the step down adapter for lowering the voltage?

I think the T500 is right in between on the servo sizes.

Every time I think I might have my mind made up...I see something like this to make me think....very cool stuff!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmB2J...eature=related

That would be very cool to see the 600 blowing some snow up....I'll bet it would move some snow if you got it in a low hover!!!

Jeff,

I think about the 500 enough that I called Hobby Hangar today...and they still have ONE left...LMAO!!!

The worst thing is I get paid tomorrow...when I have all that cash in my wallet....there is no telling what I might do !! LOL!

I TRIED to rationalize getting the servo and gyro first...

Hmmmm

LOL!!!

Glenn,

When you buy the seesaw (EFLH 1423 flybar Seesaw Holder Set:B400 $2.99) the screws and blade grip/servo linkage balls come with it. No! I have never had a bearing damaged, but I have lost them in the crash however. The Seesaw is a bit tight to get in, you have to twist and turn to get it through the head. CAUTION! Step one...you have to pull one side of the cage off first, slide it off of the flybar (you've already removed the paddle). Next there will be a tiny little brass thrust washer just behind the side of the cage you removed. Step 2 then slide the flybar dang near out of the otherside of the cage but stop just short and so you don't drop that brass thrust washer from that side. NOw your ready to try and get the Seesaw through.
NOTE: the cage has allen screws that "should" be on top but sometimes they are on the bottom side too. If you find those threads are stripped then flip it over as there are nre holes and threads on the bottom side. PM if need more.

Yikes.... Paydays can be bad-days sometimes... Get it !... A simple step-down is cheap, and just a little adapter going from your gyro to the tail servo... I actually ran one of my 9254's on my Rex 450 for about 8 months with the step-down... I picked up another step-down for the 500 though, as my other step-down is on my 450 still with the 9257... Funny you mentioned the JR3500... As today at work I was thinking about picking one up to maybe try in the 500... And if I didn't like it, and put in one of the 9254's, I would just save it for another heli later... I have heard the tail holds much better with the standards than with the 9257's or the 3400/3500's... But I won't be doing any 3-D so the smaller servo's will probably will just work fine... I'll have to experiment to see... The 9254 does have twice the torque though than the 9257, but yes.... It weighs twice as much... A big factor for me, is once I'am set-up I'll see where my CG is sitting and such...

Talk with ya guys later, gotta tinker with the heli's .......

JPEE,

You are the man! Thanks for the info. So, everything I need is in the EFLH 1423 kit? I was thinking I needed the head block (EFLH 1422)??

I am too tired to look at it now. I'll see if my LHS has the 1423, and go from there.

THANKS!

Jeff,

I see now...thanks for the info on the step down...

That opens up the servo window a little more. I was going to go with the 9254...but Heli Direct's description said "For full size helis such as the T-Rex 600...NOT for micro or mini helicopters"....so I figured they knew what they were talking about...??

Like you said though..I'm not going to be doing ANY 3D with a T500 any time soon....that would all be done on the B400's for sure!!

I am hating life after this B400 crash...I would cry if I crashed a T500!!

Thanks again!

Glenn,

The 9254 would work for the cyclic on a 600, but not the 500 since it uses mini servos. But using a standard servo for the tail would be just like using a mini servo for the 450 tail servo. The picture is the exact step down regulator I use on the 450 and 600. You just connect it between the gyro and tail servo. That was a cool Lepton video.

I didn't see Jeff's pic of the regulator, so I guess you have two pictures to look at.

Glenn ~

I took a few pics for fun, just so you can see the diff in real life of the 9254 and the 9257 servo for comparison... The JR 3400/3500 are pretty much close to the same size as the 9257, so you can see the size differences from the pics. I'am sure ya already looked up the specs, as HeliDirect even will list them for you nice and clear, but seeing them in a pic says a lot for that matter.... It's a hard choice to choose which one, as it seems all my research shows half the gents are running the standard sizes, while the other half is using our 450 size tail servos like the 9257 for example...

Both my 9254's came in the combo's with the GY401 kits... The combo with the Gy401 and 9254 usually is about $189-$199... If you bought them seperate, it would be usually more expensive as from Heli-Direct the 9254 is $120.00 and the Gyro I believe is $140.00... So ya save a bit this way if you did decide for the 9254....

Cheers,

~ Jeff

Hey guys,

Heli...There is no good way to straighten a main shaft. It probably can be done, if you are patient enough, but most likely, you'll never get it perfectly straight, and if it's not PERFECTLY straight, it WILL cause the whole heli to vibrate. Buy a new one. Not a part to cut corners on! If you are going to try, check it by rolling it on a glass surface to check for straightness.

Evan....yup, that's the ticket. Plug the power supply in the wall, hook up the charger, adjust the settings, and you can charge all day long!

Jeff...Thanks much on the servo pics, definately helps alot...I am leaning towards the smaller servos....reasoning is that at first, I would be using the 3S x 2 battery configuration...and everything I have read says that ends up being a tail heavy setup...thus I would want the ligher servo, at least to begin with. I could always upgrade later..and as you said, I don't plan any heavy 3D anytime soon!!

Nick...Thanks for the pic of the regulator, it helped me as well.

Gotta go, at work...

Glenn,

I have a drawer full of them. I am going to try and heat one red hot and then roll it with a ceramic floor tile on another tile so there is a flat as possible surface. I'll let you know. BUt you do need ot see this. I saw this months ago and was going ot have a firend make me one but heck as I have gotten better flying, now for an occasional main shaft I don't see the need.

Hi Nick,

Your the engineer so I need some help here old friend. I have tons of these small transformers that are 120vt a/c and come down to 6, 9, 12, 14 vt dc and I use them on projects. However after putting a meter on every one of these they come in at higher voltages but one, it was a not shown here a 6vt. But the rest as you will see are way off as a 6=10vt..............9=11vt....................12= 14vt......14=18vt all d/c of course. So the question is, when you plug one of these into your charger, tape recorder, spot light, walkie talkies, etc, how much voltage can you go over before the electronics "could" sustain damage. Just like a car battery is 12vt dc but when you put probes on it it can be as high 14.5vt?

Thanks for your thoughts on this............JPee
