Fei Bao Mirage 2000
Hi all,
I've had some real constructive feedback from questions I posed to Pablo Fernandez about his Mirage 2000 (thanks Pablo) but can't find much other useful information about Fei Bao's Mirage on the web, so thought I'd come here to the Font of all Jet Knowledge for information.
I'm interested in feedback from guys familiar with the Fei Bao Mirage 2000 (good and bad, relevant and constructive) on:
The kit itself - quality of mouldings/finish, jet pipe, fuel tanks, wood bits, etc...and particularly the structural integrity (glue joints, any delam problems, etc)
The undercarriage/wheels/brakes
U/C door fit (pre-fitted)
Flying qualities of the completed model
Any reliability issues associated with the model
Anything else relevant
Thanks for your time.
Cheers,
Dick

RE: Fei Bao Mirage 2000
Hi Dick,
I bought Pablo's mirage and have been flying it for a while. To answer some of your questions:
The brakes work so well, I have had to reinforce the ribs and formers holding the mains to handle the stress.
The plane tracks very well and is very stable in the air. It does a very nice knife edge without effort and slow rolls.
You will have to put large gear door cylindars on the 2 main doors because they have problems closing due to the air resistance while flying. I would put one large air take per main because of the rather large struts and wheels. Maintain air pressure at 110 to 120psi.
This plane is one of my favorite jets. I hope this helps.
I'm also including a video link below.

Julio

Thanks very much for your reply and the vid link - great flying model by the looks of it...love those high power high G turns! If nothing turns up RTGo here in the UK (building time's at a premium...almost non-existant at the moment...and I need something scale that turns me on), I'm pretty sure I'll place an order after Xmas, so may well be back in touch with you later.
Thanks again and a Merry Xmas to you and your family.

Well, that video just about sold me.
What enginge is in the Mirage? Thrust?
Thanks Julio
Does anyone know where to get a cockpit kit for this jet?
Happy Holidays to everyone.

Yes this is a sweet flying model. I have an RTI turbine with 28lbs. of thrust.
I have also been trying to get a hold of a cockpit for the Mirage. The last I heard from Wagner was that it is on its' way, but it has been a while!. That's all this baby needs now. (Maybe I'll get one for Christmas!)
Thanks and Merry Christmas guys.

Julio,
Have you heard anything from Wagner about the availability of a cockpit kit?
What retracts does your Mirage have?
I continue to enjoy watching your video - Very well done.
Best regards, Jim

Hi John,
The CG is 420 mm from where the wing meets the fuse with full UAT, all missile rails and no pilots (still waiting for the cockpit). For the first flights, I used the manufacturers specs but it was nose heavy.
Jim, I stiill have not heard anything regarding an ETA for the cockpit. I would love to hear if anyone knows of a cockpit than can be made to fit.
The mirage has the retracts and struts that come with the kit.

RE: Fei Bao Mirage 2000
I have a serious issue on the elevons on both wings. They use a full length hinge pin to hold the elevons on. While checking out the wing before building, I noticed a LOT of play in the hinge. I removed the pin and found that all the ears mounted in the wing were drilled out to 3,4 mm. The pin is only 2,4 mm! I have attached pictures that are hopefully clear enough, taken with the cellphone.
After much thought on how to repair, I decided to drill out a 4mm nylon screw 2.4mm. I then tapped out the ears and then cyanoed the nylon screw in place. Let the cyano dry and then trimmed the excess off. After all the inserts had dried, I cleaned out the holes again. I checked the fit of the hinge pin and then reassembled and it worked out great.
I don't know how this happened but just a heads up to anyone else out there that might have also got a "Lemon"

Jet Doctor,
Yes, if you can move your thread it would be nice to have it here for all of us Mirage Addicts.
Julio and others,
Cockpit Kits: From what I've learned so far, there are two companies that make cockpit kits (other than the OEMs):
CamLex in Portland, Oregon. They make Wingman cockpit kits to order.
Monica or Dante

[email protected]
Heres an example of the Wingman cockpits: http://www.camlex-rc.com/winginfo.html
Discount Hobby Warehouse in San Diego
John Weaver

I think John would need a cockpit tub as a base to produce a cockpit, check with him?
It would be likely (IMO) that once a mfg. releases a product, and didn't design / plan for a cockpit in the first place, they most likely won't go back and produce one(read spend the money).
FWIW, I'm considering using a SM cockpit kit for my JL L-39. I believe it is 'close enough' to make it work. So possibly another manufacturer who offers a dual cockpit kit can be modified to fit the Mirage? For instance, SM's F-18F 1:8 scale is close to the same dimensions as the FB Mirage.
Keep the info coming.
Best regards, Jim

Hi Julio
Thanks for the info on the cg for the Mirage, In the manual on the FeiBso site for the Mirage they refer to the Velox???? they also say programme in up elevator with flaps,????????
Julio have a look at the Skymaster cockpit for their F18 it is a good fit for the Mirage with a small bit of fileing on the cockpit area on the Mirage.
Many thanks

RE: Fei Bao Mirage 2000
My FBMirage 2000 came a couple of weeks back...just found the time to have a good look at it and start a build thread over on the JMAs site at:
http://jmajets.co.uk/board/viewtopic...=12&t=1077
Albeit a quick-assembly typekit, I'm going to try and get it done in between house alterations (which means I'll lose my workshop for a couple of months), so mine might not be so quick!
Cheers,
Dick

Hye Dick,
A little old thread but it`s worth a try
I started building this Mirage 2000 for a customer but there aren`t many threads on the web.
Found yours on jmajets and tried to register but still can`t go on that forum.
I`m looking for pictures about the build of the Mirage 2000, just for ideas, all the pictures on jmajets are gone
Can you send me this pictures?
And do you have the correct CG and control throws for this jet?
Thanks for the info.
Grt,
Berto.

Hoi Hans,
Here some pics of the FB Mirage 2000.

Thanks, I also like the striping, sadly it isn`t my model (ah, I`m waiting for my C&C Model L-39 scale 1:5 so I may not complain).
Just had the airframe on the scale.
Airframe weight: +/- 7500 gram
gear +/- 1500 gram
So it start with a total of +/- 9 kg.
