Default Powerband Issue

How can you resolve this issue? do I need a stiffer clutch spring? or lean out the motor?

Its hard to explain but I'll give my best shot...

I just put in a new Axial .28 spec 1s and it has been broken in already... well... it not as the same as before as the 4.1... having a high pitch at high speed so now Im guessing Im lacking RPM?

Who said it was broken in or did you break it in? If its new it needs to be broken in. Alot of things can cause low power output loose slipper, grub screw coming out of rear output on tranny, bad clutch etc.

the break in was done by me... thats what I meant I have a brand new clutch shoe installed, adjusted the nut... tight with no 1/4 or 1/2 turn... I was thinking of changing my clutch shoe spring for a stiffer ones... will that resolve it?

you replaced a f4.1(.25) with the axial .28.
what gearing are you using.
if its still the stock 15t cb and 49t spur. you should be flipp'in that truck on its lid with that much torque.
if your looking for speed change your gears 17t/18t cb and a 47t/46t spur to get more out of the .28.

check to see if the grub screw for the rear output cup on the tranny is missing. after that take the engine out and check to see if the clutch springs are still in the groove and that the clutch nut it tight.

Im using the stock clutchbell 15T and 52T spur gear I might end up getting a 47T for it...

I cant tell for certain, but sounds like its not shifting. if thats the case then its either your slipper adjustment is too loose or your clutch shoes are slipping too much.

as for the grub screw heres a pic.

looks to me that you've got alot of smoke, so maybe the hsn is not lean enough.(that would cause it not to shift) what temps is it running at?

thanks for pointing that out Vigilante... it was loose too!

well I think its fix now! I adjusted the nut by the spur gear again loosen it up to almost 1/2 of a turn then I lean out the HSN a little bit... now its hauling arse!

Thanks guys for all your help.

with it 1/4 loosened from tight it acts as a give point rather than busting something in the drivetrain.
diff's mainly.

once you get that engine tuned in. you'll get fed up with the flipping and wheelies and want to go faster.
i remember my f4.1 with 13t/52t gearing loved the wheelies but the excitement wears off quick and got the lrp spec3.
changed the gearing real quick with that upgrade.

wheelie with the stock f4.1.

this is the one i use with the small wheel. i can wheelie as long as i want. it bolts on solid and won't bend. i've landed on it from a jump and nothing happened http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/85245.html

it was a homemade one.but put alot of stress on the skidplate/diff screw's.
now all i use is the one from hpi. one on each truck(4).

I find the slipper only midly useful for when your jumping and cant get off the gas fast enough. this will prevent damage if you land with the throttle open. my slipper disk blew apart on me with it only being a 1/4 turn loose ever since I cranked it tight. There are easier ways to prevent wheelies. Softer rear springs, changng the spur CB gear ratio, adding a bit of weight to the front end.
