Airwild 50cc Extra 260 first finished pix!!!
thanks for your patience guys, here they are..still some interior work to be done, but close...if you would like specific pix, let me know. 50cc Extra 260. 87" wingspan, finished weight under 15lbs. Manual written for first time gas users with lots and lots of pictures and instructions specific to setting up ignition engines - and where possible, on line support. Phenolic control horns, nothing to drill or tap, all laser cut with glass cowl and pants, pull on rudder, elevator geometry optimized for precise IMAC or 3D flying. Additional Airwild parts, NX prop, Nova spinner, Airwild aluminum servo arms, and 22 gauge connectors. very straightforward assembly, a couple of weekends, and you'll have a killer airplane.

Paul, She sure looks nice. Can't wait for the flight report. This is the first I've heard of Airwild's 50 cc plane. I know you'll keep us posted.

Looks very nice, look forward to the flight report and videos. Any chance of a picture looking down on it from the front? I find that gives the best perspective on how it looks overall.
The price on the site says $575 is that what the first run will sell for? I'm assuming it is. What hardware comes with the kit?
Lastly when are they expected?
Thanks Alot!!

RC...I'll will try to post additional pix later today, time and weather (yes, it does rain in So Cal) permitting. I'm also going to talk to Jerry about the specifics of what he'll package with the airplane. Thanks for your interest....

The website states:
"Extra 260 comes complete with hinges, AirWild EFP light-weight control horns, aluminum landing gear, aluminum wing tube, stab tube and mounting hardware."
So it looks like you select and supply your own ball links, pushrods, tank, wheels and axles.

RE: Airwild 50cc Extra 260 first finished pix!!!
hi guys, and thanks for your patience. here are the finished pix of the interior. the receiver is one of the older JR 10 channel, don't need that many and the receiver weighs about twice the newer ones or the 649. and speaking of weight, this is indeed a sub 15lb airplane! the Extra benefits from a slender design, and doesn't take on the girth weight of a Yak. So with a DA 50 this is the ticket...3D, IMAC, or just rippin around the sky. note that the giant scale switch slots are precut on both sides for both ignition and receiver...so if you want to run dual batteries installation is a snap. wing retention is from a single screw through the fuse..simple and clean. the receiver and optic kill sit on a shelf above the tube making installation fast and friendly. partially obscured is the vent line, which just comes out and exits under the fuse. Jerry is going to be at Toledo this weekend, so please stop by and say hi...and check out the airplane!

Question...how close is the rear carb to the firewall? You might want to create a center hole in the firewall for a little air draw or the engine might lag on up lines???????....at least that has been my experience. Nice looking plane!

we have not had any problems with our earlier models, in 3D, precision, or just goofing around. but it certainly would not be a problem to do. thanks for the comments,

Looks good...
Now for one of the sixty-four dollar questions, what is the RTF weight?

It weighs about 15.75lbs. The equipment is as follows:
JR 8611s all around except the throttle which uses a Hitec 5645. (The 8611s are overkill but I had them laying around)
1.25 SWB double lock servo arms, 3" JR Adjustable Spline servo arm
Batteries: Troy Built 2800 mah on ignition, 5400 mah on receiver includes two regulators
4" Tru Turn Ultimate spinner with light backplate
22X8 Mejlik prop
Carbon fiber tail wheel (the same one used on Extreme Flight Yak)
1" Pro-Links on ailerons, for elevators built carbon fiber push rods from Central Hobbies CF and titanium ends
Dubro heavy duty ball links all around
Hangar 9 engine mount and stand offs from RC Showcase
Durbo 20oz tank
JR 945S receiver
I believe that this covers the bulk of it. I really like the Extra 260 and was waiting for something like this for the BME 50. I have had the engine for many years in a Giantscaleplanes 80" Edge that weighed around 17lbs.

Thanks for the info pgrose, I've been wanting something to replace my GP Patty and had been looking at this model but I've never seen an AirWild around here so I was curious about the fit, finish, trim etc. plus the customer support aspect.
From what I've seen so far, it looks like they pay attention to questions asked but that doesn't tell you anything about the model itself.
So you're running redundant batteries on the rx? i.e a pair of 2700's and the two regulators? If so that's similar to what I put in my 33% Edge I've not flown yet and would account for about a half pound of weight and means the 14.75 lbs. RTF they advertise with a DA-50 is very close to the target. Or at least it looks that way to me since that BME is almost exactly the same weight as the DA isn't it?
We'll be, or at least I'll be, waiting anxiously for your flight reports...

RE: Airwild 50cc Extra 260 first finished pix!!!
Only running one battery on the Rx - the 5400 mah square pack. The 2800 is on the ignition. Both batteries need a regulator and that's why I have two. I also used Robart hinge points for all surfaces. I have not had much luck with CA hinges and vibrating gas motors. These hinge added to the weight. The BME nneds a motor mount so that adds some extra ozs. So far I am happy with the kit. The finish and construction were decent for the money and the wheel pants are one the best sets I have seen. Would have liked CF tubes and landing gear.

RE: Airwild 50cc Extra 260 first finished pix!!!
Maiden went well this morning. Few clicks of down elevator and a touch of right aileron and she settled in. The BME swinging the 22X8 Mejlik is plenty power and as you would expect given the power/weight combo, you have enough authority to execute any maneuver. A DA50 with a 23X8 Mejlik would be awesome. The plane has no bad tendencies and is rock solid. I am no expert but I believe that IMAC pilots will enjoy this one. Still need to trim out some coupling and will finalize that process on a less windy day. On knife edge she pulls to the canopy and also wants to roll out.
She was a little nose heavy with the Rx pack ahead of the CG, and is now just a tad nose heavy after I moved the Rx battery pack to just behind the wing tube. This suits my flying style. She slows nicely and is exceptionally stable on landings. With the exception of the rudder settings, the low rates per the manual were fine. She rolls well and was not pitchy. I added a little more rudder for a more responsive feel.
I added some more pics to show the interior layout, details of the tail section, and the few graphics I added.
