My TLT Based Crawler... "Brute Force" --- 2-21-07 --- Video added
After several weeks of thinking and designing... Several weeks of testing... Then re-designing.... I ended up with this. A scale-ish 1/8th TLT-based F-150 crawler with a 13.5" WB custom chassis and 50 deg of articulation. I took it for it's first real crawl today and it works very well for having a long WB and being my first build. I did not get any pics of it on the rocks (and stairs) but I got a few pics in the living room...... So here it is!!
Let me know what you think!
EDIT: I forgot to mention the REVO shafts and cut MAXX springs are temporary... I have JATO shafts and softer full-length springs on the way.

haha now I see that! The second pic shows the "long horn" very clearly. You should paint up some eyes and a mouth on the chassis plates! lol

Nice work! [:-] That is a great-looking chassis, and it looks like it will get the job done nicely on the rocks. I really like a chassis with twin frame rails.

Thanks... I like how it came out too. It has good form and function. I may trim out the side plates on V2.0 to loose a little weight and further enhance the appearance. This is V1.5, V2.0 will come about once I see it's short commings and make furthe improvements.
- - I guess I should call it "Longhorn V1.5" instead of "Brute Force"... Brute Force is what the liscense plate I have for it says "BRT FRC"

RE: My TLT Based Crawler... "Brute Force"
I just went for a little trail ride in the front garden.... I am impressed with what this thing is capable of. The long wheel base does make some things more challenging than I think an 11.5" WB would and the body also makes the approach angle not so great, but it flexes if you push hard enough and lets the tires reach. With the 4200 mAh battery I ran for well over an hour on 1 charge, and only stopped because the transmitter batts died, the truck seems to still have plenty left . I took a ton of pics, some of which I will be posting shortly.

Wow, that looks totally cool on the rocks. I see what you mean about the approach. Maybe you could just raise the body a bit for more clearance? It doesn't seem to be too tight. The wheelbase is pretty long, but it does match the body so well.
The pictures look great!

I tried raising the body, but it ruins the scale look... The body is going to get beat-up anyway, so I can live with the scuffed bumper.

My chassis doesn't limit articulation at all.... I had it set up and getting too much articulation, around 80 deg. Using the shock mounting position I have limited my flex to around 50-60 deg. You can have too much flex. I made the chassis long to allow me to mount bumpers.

Last week my Spektrum TX was stolen and put any plans for the crawler and my 1/5 on hold... BUT my new radio should be here by the weekend and I think I am going to get a little video. That along with possibly moving on to V2.0.

I am glad you like it... As many people who I found seem to like it, I may just happen to make a few extras when I build V2.0..... for no particular reason of course

RE: My TLT Based Crawler... "Brute Force"
I took it out toady and got a little video.... Not too much because my front steering servo died. It is a TowerPro 995MG, I have one in the rear too and have never had trouble with these until now, but I only paid $5 a piece for them . Anyway, I'll post some vid once the clips are edited together, I also plan to work on V2.0 tonight which will be based on a 1/10 scale HPI Jeep Rubi body meaning a shorter, more capable rig. Here are a few pics from this afternoon:

Acs,
[X(] WOW, that looks great. You have been busy huh? I wish I was as far along as you, lol. I have put mine off for quite some time, though I do have enough tubing to build quite a few chassis'.
Looks great, keep up the good work.

No V2 to show yet, but I got some post worthy video today that will be posted in the next few days. It's Urban Rock Crawling, but a good place to test things out.
