Best 2WD truck...
I am considering racing Nitro 2WD trucks this summer at a local track. Seems to be the best class going, about sixteen or so every week. I really love on-road oval, but there doesn't seem to be alot of interest in it right now. Anyway, what is the best truck I can throw a good .12 engine on and compete with? RC10, XXX, Rush, Evader, others...

I like my RC10GT a lot. It's tough, durable, fast and very adjustable. It also has a long track history of winning races. The stock engine is a little slow but if you are putting your own in that's not a limiting factor.
I also like the Mugen ST a lot. A guy at the local track has one and it is very fast and handles well.
I've heard good things about the Losi's but also hear that the stock parts at least on the RTR are not all that tough. The replacement parts seem to be much better.
Nitro Rustler is very fast our of the box. I haven't heard good things about it's handling. I've seen one of these at the track as well and it is very fast, so much so that it is somewhat uncontrollable. I can't tell if it just handles poorly or if it's so fast that it's hard to control.
Since I own an RC10GT I have to give it a recommendation. Others will tell you to be different and get something other than a GT, but so many people own them for a reason.

Speed and power play only a small part when racing on a track. The average speed on most tracks is about 15mph. Races are won in the corners and not on the straights so handling is most important and excessive speed is of little use. I raced a Nitro Rustler for the last 2 seasons and spent a fortune (tires, shocks, CVD's, engines, pipe, radio, bearings, carbon fiber, pro ball diff, etc.) trying to get it to handle like a GT or Losi. There is just something wrong with the chassis that won't let you take the "brick" out of it. For 1/2 of what I spent on my NR I just bought a AE Factory Team, OS CVR 12, JR XS3 radio and a whole pile of spare parts. The NR is a great truck, just not for racing.

If you want top performance, go with the top brand. Mugen MST1. It doesn't come with anything (well you can get it w/ engine for more) but it still costs less than a XXXNT Adam Drake while still performing better. If you cant afford that, get the XXXNT or RC10GT. The Traxxas Rustler no matter what will not be capable of winning against competant(?) drivers.

lets see, just about every losi person on RC bulliten(?) still morning give me breka, anyways was complaining about the Mugen because it handles so much better. It improved on every aspect of the Losi. Its Mugen, they are the defination of top quality. Every person that has owned one has talked about its great handling compared to the RC10GT and losi. Dont get all defensive just becuase you don't own the best, facts are facts. I dont need to own them to understand which is better.

I have yet to drive a mugen up against my losi so I can't say which is better. I'm not one of those people who listen to every thing others say or else I would have to wear boots all the time because we all know how deep the s--t gets. I think you should probably stick to the electric forum where you might know what you are talking about

Yea, don't say that kind of stuff here. That's like entering enemy lines and saying "You Suck." Ha Ha. There will be so many people, so fast right on you, that you won't know what to do!
