King Tiger
Hallo,
after waiting for nearly 3 month for my Tiger II - he has arrived !
I will build the Tiger II of Karl Bromann of the schwere SS - Panzerabteilung 503 (Koenigstigerabteilung des III. germanischen SS-Panzerkorps).
The sSSPzAbt. 503 had started fighting on the east front with their Tiger II in January 1945 till the Endkampf in Berlin in 1945.
The Tiger II will get a camouflage the unit used 1945 in Ostpreussen (there are interesting questions about this, but I will come to that point later).
The first parts to make the Tiger II more scale have also arrived ...
A sclae Barrel, a scale resin bezel and the adapter for the Barrel:
Side fender mounts, photoetched grids, armor guard for the engine exhaust with number, detail Set 1 from Axel, close defense weapon, spare track holders turret and movable rear hatch
modified axles (rear), improved track adjuster system, modified bushings, drivingshaft support bearing,
Hope the next parts will come in a few days - for some I have to wait again till they are produced - I will write the report of the particular part step by step while building ...
So far ...
Greetings

Hallo,
thanks for your encouragement !
Dave, I talked with Axel about and took the POM (plastic) driveshaft supports - I can not compare them myself, but Axel said, that the POM version is better ... so I took it ... hope that he is right

Very cool Stern. I have ordered a Tamiya King Tiger also. I am now going through Tigers in Combat 1 & 2 to see which tank I will model.

You are going to love the KT. I am very happy with mine. What little bit of building on it I have managed to get done I have really enjoyed. I went with alot of the upgrade parts as well. Well at least what I could afford before the wife decided I was getting a little carried away. There were still a few more parts I would have liked to add but it may be a good thing I stopped where I did. After getting the lower chassis done and the metal tracks on I realized it is going to be one very heavy tank.
I am hoping to get back to my build this weekend. Things have been real busy lately and sadly my KT has not gotten much attention.

Hey W Read,
I Live down in Haliburton On.
Where did you order yout KT from.
I see they had one down in Toronto but they wanted more money than some of the US sites.
One Hobby shop in Barrie said they could order it cheaper from Tower Hobby in the States.
He quoted me around 850.00 cdn taxes in.
What do you think?

I think $850CDN taxes incl. is a great price. I saw it on militaryhobbies.com for 1099CDN plus taxes. [sm=omg_smile.gif]
I got mine from Tower Hobbies for $569US - no taxes. Had it delivered to my sister in Texas ($8.99 shipping) and will be picking it up there this winter.
Even having it shipped from Tower Hobbies to here was only $19USD but I don't know what the taxes and duty would have been on $650CDN. [sm=drowning.gif]
I also ordered a Futaba transmitter, spare transmitter batteries and the battle system. They have a special on now where you save $10 for every dollar you spend. I saved $80 so really got the transmitter for free. [sm=wink_smile.gif]

RE: King Tiger
I bought mine from another member here in the tank forum. It was new in the box and cost me about $650 CDN. If I had not got one this way my other two options I was considering was either to buy one from Stella Models in Hong Kong or Tower Hobbies. When I first decided to get a Tamiya tank I called a number of Canadian hobby shops. All of them gave me different prices ranging from $850 to $1200. When I called a couple of the larger hobby shops I even mentioned the price I could get it from Tower Hobbies for. Most said they could not come close to that price and one went as far as telling me I should buy it from Tower Hobbies because it was a really good price.[X(]

I am looking forward to seeing the progress of your KT as you build it. I see you went with a few options I would have liked to add to mine. The two options I am really glad I went with is the drive axle supports and the metal tracks. I went with the brass drive axle supports instead of the POM ones as I figured with a little lubrication they would be fine and would add a little weight to the finished tank. For metal tracks I decided to try the ones Stella Models sells as the price was right and they were for sure better than the plastic ones. Of course I decided to go with the metal tracks after I went and bought two spare sets of plastic tracks. The good news is I got the extra plastic tracks for a really good price.

Schaut gut aus Stern. Die photoetched teile macht scho was aus! Besser als die bloede gitter von Tamiya. Baus du die obere schutzbleche auch noch drauf? Hat Axel die ueberhaupt?
