Well I finished the second wing last night and began on the elev,stab. I am now committed to the pull pull on the elev as the bolts are epoxied in.

I know I have asked this question before but I want to be absolutely sure.
I can mount the servos 1 of 2 ways.

1 I can mount them on their side. In order to keep the servo output shaft in line with the hinge line I will need to install the servos behind the cockpit. This will move the servos about 27" forward of their stock location.

2 I can mount the servos upright all the way up at the wing tube. This would be Ideal because I am mounting the BME110 Xtreme in the front so I need to get the weight out of the tail. The downfall here is that I will need to mount the servos output shaft about 3/4" below the stab. I dont think this will work as the geometry isnt right.
One last time. Any opinions on this? I have included a pic showing my options.

If anybody is interested, I will continue to post pics of the entire project.

What you should do is mount the engine and everthing else, then see where they need to be. Personally the on the side way looks like a good setup to me.

I can't tell from the pic what servos you are using or how long the servo arms are but with the clevis screwed all the way in against the sontrol arm and the pushrods all the way out on the end of the servo arm you have a serious mechanical disadvantage.
From here it looks like the servo arms are 1-1/4". On mine I used 1-1/4" servo arms and was able to move the clevises all the way out to the end of the control arm and still acheive sufficient throw. Just some food for thought.

I would change those Futaba 9303's on your plane. I had them on my Sukhoi and had them strip out on me after a hard landing. Didn't learn about it until the next flight, the roll rate was real slow, landed the plane and the right aileron would not move. I now have Sanwa ERG-Vb servos in it. Also stripped 7 out of 8 of them on my H9 Cap232 when I pancaked it into the field.

im using futaba 3305 high tork . 1" arms on elev 1 1/4 on rudder i just do get 3 d throws i need to get 1 1/4 " arms for elev i guess.

I run 8411's on the tail surfaces, They hold up great! I have 1.25" arms on my elevators to get some big throw.

On the ailerons they are non digital JR 90oz servo's. Working great.

I have noticed that alot of people are using analog servos in ailerons. Why?
Also, JohnVH do you find the throws recommended in the manual to be sufficient?

I went with the simple servo's on the ailerons because I dont think they are needed to be HD digital. Heck, buddy has the extra 33% with one servo on each aileron and it flies great.. So two normal should be better than one digi IMO..

THe book throws are great for normal flying, but for 3D put in all you can get!

I went with the H9 accessory kit for all linkages, servo horns etc. I used all the standard servo locations and setup as per the kit. I mounted a BME 105 and used the Sukhoi BME Adapter from CHief Aviation.
Futaba S9402 servos on all control surfaces except the throttle
2 MSA-10 servo syncronizers (Ailerons and Rudder).
Duralite 2 battery redundant system. 7.4v Nimh 3600Mah (with voltage regualtors)
(I dont like charging very much...)

I mounted everything on or forward of the CG. And on prelimenry balancing it seems I will have to add little or no weight.

I am balancing at +- 1-1.25 inchs behind the wing tube.

According to Mike McConville
"The correct cg location is 13/16" behind the CENTER of the wing
tube for precision flying, and approximately 1/2" to 3/4" behind that for
all 3D flying. "

I will see how it flies before changing anything

I would like to use the Dobro composite heavy duty arms on my Sukhoi.......Do you guys think they will work or are metal arms needed here

I use the dubro HD arms on my Sukhoi and I am above 100 flights on it without any problems.

Hi, name's Ken (Starfighter)...I have one with HiTec 5625s (4ea) on Aileron, 5645s(2ea) on elevators, 5735 HD on pull-pull Rudder, and 425BB on Throttle...All servos are in stock locations except for the Rudder and Throttle, these are located in the fuselage behind the wing tube (for proper separation from the ignition)...I used DuBro HD composite "T" horns on all surfaces(detest the stock H-9 setup, too much hassle with setup), and use DuBro composite, and the HiTec Metal control arms(believe it or not, the HiTec Aluminum arms work on the Sukhoi for 3D as the surface throws are more modest than you think, and the controls very positive and powerful)...The DuBro composite control arms work A-OK...Engine at first was a 3W 75iUS, and it has been re-engined with a 3W 100iB2 Cactus Aviation Signature Edition for better thrust in the vertical plane (the 3W 75iUS gave the plane Excellent performance, but with the 100 I can GO BALLISTIC!)...The spinner is located in the scale position, way out in front of the cowl (ever seen a full size Sukhoi, or YAK for that matter?)...I balance my Sukhoi on the trim parting line at the wing tips, and the performance is OUTSTANDING at this location...Try balancing yours at the trim break as well, IT WORKS...I also modified the trim scheme with scale Russian Stars on the wings and rudder, and Cryllic script on the fuse provided by my Russian friend which translates to "Chaika Aeroclub # 29" custom made by a local sign shop from 3mil. vinyl...I LOVE this, and my H-9 CAP 232, as they are some of the best flyers around, and for the money cannot be beat!

Hi...Interesting photos, but look again, you will see space there unlike a spinner on an an inline engine install(this is what I meant by out in front of cowl)...Also, ever seen the Discovery Wings segment on the World Finals? Every Sukhoi shown had the spinner (when equipped with one) out front (like on Quique's Yak), and when no spinner, the prop hangs out there like on a P-47...So I guess, it all depends on the particular plane one is using as a reference...By the way, the plane balances better with the engine moved a little forward...Can't wait for the snow to clear so I can GO BALLISTIC!...Starfighter

Yeah, I just flew my cap with a new DA100, can you say insane? WAY over powered compared to my sukhoi, it may be getting one too Cant wait to go flying again.

Just flew recently? Oh boy am I jealous, as we won't be flying up here(upstate NY) until mid to late April!! By the way, my CAP is equipped with a 3W 85iB2, a GREAT engine...
