My understanding of cogging is...
At low speed (RPM) the motor will kinda jump or skip.
Its more noticable with sensorless (I think)

Default RE: Cogging???

Havent had any cogging on vxl in 2years so all good m8

cogging is like running a low battery pullaway is jerky like getting radio interference, you notice it when racing and pulling out of corners alot a lack of power then power than etc

And heres a good read on sensored vs sensorless motors

yeah, i peeked at my Christmas present (naughty naughty) its a rc18t knock off with a outrunner, i made sure it worked, and noticed it would "cog" a bit under very low throttle, its as if the motor gets stuck, then just shoots off, not a big deal unless your racing in a very small track.

also a bummer that the 3s i have for it is too big... even worse yet that i bought another (face palm)[:@]

bushless is a whole different animal than brushed.

I've noticed some cogging with my VXL systems at low speed, it just happens with some sensorless systems.

yes. it looks like a bundle of fun, the esc is craptacular though, its a plane esc with reverse (i hate reverse, give me brakes) stock gearing 2s should get me 30-35, bigger motor @4400kv 30 tooth pinion and 3s should get me 50+

Yes, it's pretty normal to stutter at very low speeds. Use the best possible batteries to minimize the effects. Having insufficient power makes it worse.

Cogging is usually on brushless motors and rarely brushed. Brushless motor take an inconsiderate amount of energy from the battery to power it, and if you have a low voltage battery like Nimh it will cogg, you won't see a brushless motor cogg on Lipo.

I peaked at my presents and I got a 1/16 E-Revo VXL and the Velineon system for my Stampede as well. I saw a second battery for the Revo. But no friggin' charger or battery for the Stampede. Sucks a major you-know-what. How the hell am I supposed to play with these things?

Every time a portion of the stator coil energizes, it creates a magnetic field, this field pulls the armature around. Then the next pair of coils energizes, and pulls the motor around another 180 or 90 degrees (depending on the motor)... if the coils energize too quickly or slowly for the motor to keep up, you end up with cogging. Usually the cogging is caused by voltage drops, load on the motor, crappy batteries, or a crappy esc. Its pretty much an electronic glitch, something that effects the "rhythm" of the stator.

that works kinda, but usually hobby shops won't pay hardly anything for perfectly good used stuff. sell it on ebay for best results

Thats over 500 actually if you add everything up. And I've been highly considering selling my Jato (Nitros are starting to irritate me more than excite me). And if I either get paid for fixing my friends T-Maxx, or he just gives it to me, I'll sell that too. If my friend doesn;t want his old Nitro Rustler, sell that as a cheap roller (FYI engine is shot). I wanna try to get a Rustler VXL, maybe new. But I think I should try to buy smart, and get a good dual charger that can charge NiMHs and LiPos as well. We'll have to see.

yeah, i personally don't like nitro. i wonder if it would catch the ESC on fire if you put dual 2s lipos in the mini e-revo???

No, you can run 2S in series I believe. If you could run 2 6-cell NiMHs in series I don't see why you couldn't do 2 2S lipos in series, or 4S. No I think if you tried running 6S (2 3S lipos in series), it would fry it. The Jato was running so beautifully when I got the new engine. After the first gallon, things became problematic.

Merv will work with dual 2S in Parallel (I run 2 2S in mine)
Trust me when I say it is damn fast on 2S... I don't even want to see it on 3S.

I think the reason you don't do the lipos in series on this is cause they put out higher voltages when under load. The NiMh voltage will drop considerably, and continuously while under load where the LiPo's won't go down much over the whole run so with the LiPo it would be getting more power for longer.

BTW the manual specifically stats not to exceed 3s...

Oh, that's very true, I forgot to factor that in. I was just looking at the voltage which 2 6 cell NiMHs gives 14.4V and 2 2S in series will give you 14.8V. By the way, is there any lipos that fit in the mini Revo besides MaxAmps lipos?
