RE: Kwik-FLI III
You can bet that whoever bid 550 for it is not going to build it!!! Damn shame, I had 2 of those back about 71, built and flew both of them.. Great airplanes

Thats a bit crazy[X(]
For $550.00 you could scratch build 2 or maybe 3 of them !!!
The kit is for a 40 size !!![X(][X(]
Then you could maybe build 4 of them they are not complicated like a MK 60 Joker or a MK 60 Magic ect
Less complicated than a Kaos.

Hi,
Graupner Kwik Fly MK 3 kits are on flybay in Germany now and then and they all end with high bids. They are rather rare kits. The kit quality is excellent as with most Graupner kits, I have an oldGraupner Kwik Fly MK 3 kit myself and it isGerman quality with superb drawings and building instructions.

You can get a full Kwik Fli III kit at Classic RC Hobby for $155. http://homeandhobbysolutions.com/Dyna-Fli%20Details.htm The kit is much better than the original kit and all laser cut.

RE: Kwik-FLI III
What was the final price of the kit up for sale?
I agree with 8178 about Jeff's kit. I've been Building a Top Flite kit off and on over the past year. Yes, I know it's not the same as the Graupner kit.

RE: Kwik-FLI III
The ebay kit was listed on RCG a few weeks ago for $100 shipped. There were a couple of fast responses informing the seller he was selling it too cheap - also a couple of offers. He obviously decided to pull the sale and put it on ebay. Good for him, he's $550 richer, and someone somewhere has the kit he has always wanted.

It makes me glad I never built the one I bought at a club auction twenty years ago.

RE: Kwik-FLI III
For the record:
I got my plans for the Phil Kraft drawn KFIII out and his canopy
measurement is 13 5/8". Rounded front end (no flat).
From the center of the finished top block to the top of the fitted canopy (centered measurement) is 2 1/4" high.
The closest from SIG is their 14" canopy.
Graupner's is a different shape and much shorter !
My last KFIII has the SIG 14" canopy.
Go Graupner if you wish but it is not the original size at all. The last Graupner KFIII offering I saw was 'off' in many areas.
If you really want an accurate KFIII kit go to: http://www.homeandhobbysolutions.com/
Their kit is accurate !!!! It is also reasonably priced.
.....and well done BTW.

RE: Kwik-FLI III
Thanks Free Bird.
That is nice to know.
Being from "THAT ERA" I enjoy the original stuff.
However, I am not a purist !
The last KFIII I built was converted to conventional gear and powered by a Saito 82 four stroke.
With the motor twisted just right, the muffler could be seen only from the bottom and from the top the cylinder head was all but unnoticed.
From a flight perspective, the power was a good match. Not too much, but it still had unlimited vertical.
Nice flying airplane even with the mods. It came out at 6lbs dry. (Phil's design weight / his plans BTW) Phil also noted "do not exceed 6.5 lbs".
Though I was at 7 lbs many times with RHOM Airs, they still flew perfectly
Over the years I had many KFIII's. This was pre 72MHz and and pre Frequency Boards.
I had a friend remind me a few years back that he had seen me lose six to on field interference.
That was the point where I spent a year studying and went before the FCC board and got my General ticket.
Never another on field shoot down.
BUT I switched to Spektrum DSM2 the day it arrived!!!
Better than six meters ever was and not a hiccup in over four years of heavy use to date !!!!!!!
Today you almost have to 'TRY' to get an RF anomaly .[8D]
These younger guys don't realize how great RC is today !

Some details of the Kwik Fli IV. I don't think this was ever published in any US magazines. This from RCM&E.

RE: Kwik-FLI III
FB.
Yes, but the new wing has 1" extra root chord ( 11" on the MkIII and 12" on the MkIV) so a longer fuselage cut out would be needed. I would imagine that the nose length is kept the same and the extra 1" accomodated at the trailing edge. At least that's how I would do it

RE: Kwik-FLI III
Thanks for the info Ray. I've got a fuselage that needs to be restored, making a MKIV would be a nice addition. Any idea of how much dihedral?
BTW - Please check your PM.

Not addressed to me but it is a question from my era.
We built the IV's in one piece with the top side flat on the table.
The dihedral was the result of the tapering ribs. That was but one of the two designs that comprised the IV series.
It went from 20% at the root chord to 15% at the tip. Seems to me we used the same root chord but added a bay.
The other was a constant percentage NACA 0015.
Phil, in his comments, didn't like either one as well as the standard III. The 15% totally lost the constant speed characteristics while the other flew well but offered no net gain over the constant chord III. Simply differences some of which he didn't like as well as the original III.
The KFIII wing was identical to the KFII wing.
