Default All around best Sim

I've read a bunch of posts about whether or not this or that sim is good or not, but not too many comparative posts. I was wondering if some experienced people could help me a bit. How do the sims compare in terms of realistic graphics, realistic physics, number of aircraft, ease of use, and price? I would like one that comes with it's own controller, and is good for a beginner. Thanks.

For learning 3D aerofly pro is still the sim to beat.

I believe Real Flight is the only one that comes with a controller.

AFP comes with or without a controller. Just an FYI.

Yes it does, mine didnt work, and I have not tried to figure it out yet.. but its a wash between g2 and afp, g2 you have to download the good planes, afp comes with them, so its up to you. g2 you can fly over the net, my favorite feature!

Does the AeroFly Pro come with WWII warbirds? If so, which ones are available?

Thanks,

Craig

There are a bunch of Warbirds. Comes stock with Mustang, ME 109, Spitfire and a couple other. The new Corsair is probably one of the best flying RC sim planes I have ever seen or flew complete with folding wings. Check our rcsim.de and aeroflypro.com/download for complete list of warbirds for download. There are lots of them.

Really cool with AFP is precision bomb dropping and missle firing.

I am this close (holding thumb & forefinger with an almost imperceptible gap) to ordering AFP.

Please tell me, what 3D planes does it come with? Please include any that come with Vol. 1 as I believe that it is included as well.

Will installation and operation with Windows XP and using my JR tx be acceptable?

Precision bomb dropping and missle firing? My 7yo son would go nuts! Please tell me more.

Thanks,
Brad

I got the add on pack when I ordered mine.. but I have the extra, cap, sukhoi, giles. Those are the ones off the top of my head I can think of.. FWIW, I have a 40% 3W extra 330s, and the one on the sim does not fly like it.. just FYI.. But the sime planes fly well! As do the heli's

There are lots of birds that can fire missles and drop bombs on AFP. They don't explode, but you can make targets and try to hit them. I use the Porta Potties with the Jap Zero with drop tank. Someone needs to create a big bucket for one of the fields to catch the bombs. I'm sure that's coming next.

I've found the Real Flight isn't very good at all for 3-D. While I'm not very good either, I can do much more with my actual planes at the field than that simulator (video game as my son calls it!!). Other than 3-D I've found most flight characteristics to be very real...but forget hovering, etc. (which is why I spent $200 in the first place!!!)

Thanks for your reply, Dion, both here as well as over on your AFP board. When my son read your replies and saw those pictures, he had a big cr@p-eating grin.

Now someone needs to figure a way to make the missles & bombs explode. Not too PC, I know, but I'm not known for strict adhereance to Political Correctness.

Thanks again,
Brad

Has anyone here in the US played with both AFP Pro and Reflex XTR? I would like to know the differences in flight physics between the two before I commit to that kind of purchase.

You can dload them from this site. You'll need the longest runway for the B-52.

If you guys want to have a lot of fun. Fly this Corsair and put it into some true stall to spins. This is the best flying plane for AFP. It was done by a German named Lego who develops some of the best freeware planes for AFP. Complete with folding wings, split flaps, sliding canopy. Oh and that famous Corsair tip stalls. Awesome plane. It's the only Warbird I like to fly that is actually challenging. Plus the prop clearance is very accurate as well. You only have about 3-5 degrees of variable pitch for landing which is VERY scale as I have read about the Corsairs. Kudos to Lego! BTW if you do download this plane, do not touch the parameters. Don't try to overpower it, it flies just like it's supposed to. Try landing it with the wings up! That's a lot of fun.

But the best part of AFP are the things you want to do on the field but just can't. At least when nobody's looking! Like dropping bombs and reserves tanks on your buddy's $200,000 motor home.

I only have a 5 channel JR computer tx. It sounds like we're operating more than 5 channels here. Can some of the channels (e.g. drop tanks, flaps, folding wings) be operated from the keyboard?

Yes you can assign up to 12 channels. 5 on your TX and 7 on your keyboard. No prob! You can also assign, for instance a single channel that turns your smoke on, gear goes up and flaps are up. That same channel can lower the flaps, turn the smoke off and put the gear down. So 1 switch can operate your plane for landing or flying configuration. You can use a key to drop a bomb. You can also use keys for opening canopies, glider towing release, turn and rotate nozzle for the harrier, brakes, open and close doors and bunch of other options.

You can even use AFP for control line!

Hi Dion,
I never knew that you could fire missiles with AFP. I have been looking all over the place for download sites and I have liked what I have seen!

You are going to find a lot of things that AFP does that no other sim does. Heli tethering and parachute dropping. You can even hook a glider up to a Jeep and drive it around. Banner towing ... much more. Keep going through those download sites, lots to see!
