You Will Not Believe What Happened! (Sav X) *Pics*
Well after getting major help in this thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4536168/tm.htm and tuning my new Savage X to perfection the worst happened. Since the Savage was slow and sluggish at top end, I leaned it out and I started doing wheelies (Yay!). Then after checking the temps, I figured I could lean it out even more, so I did. THE TRUCK LITERALLY FLIPPED OVER when I hit full throttle off the line! This happened once so I figured I should stop leaning it out and I did. Then this happened again but accidently this time (I was running it without body or roll cage! Ya I know Im an idiot). I checked the car (it was dark) and it looked ok except for the scratches on the head. After I brought it home, where I saw a part of the head was bent (nothing major) so I bent it back to place. I let the truck cool and went to start the truck. It didnt. So I looked closely and saw that the clutch bell was no where near the spur gear! I was shocked to see this. Then after putting the truck on a level surface, I saw that the engine looked tilted for some reason. I checked again and saw that I had bent the motor mount plate slightly! (thats way the CB didnt hit the SG). After being in shock for some time I checked again and saw a very small peice of the side chassis(?) was bent. Then yada yada yada I put a washed under the engine mount and It leveled somewhat but I still cant get perfect mesh . Now for the Pics. And yes I do know that I am an idiot for not installing the included roll cage!
Isn't it ironic that the roll cage is on? Sry for bad pic.
Ohh and to top all this off, my RS4 3 EVO was stolen out of my garage the same hour! [:@]

that sucks beyond belief. Call HPI first thing tomorrow and tell them what happened. This is a freak thing...
I know my X wheelied violently stock with the 15/49 gearing and the clutch and the pipe, but I never figured it would've done it hard enough to break stuff! maybe it was just the immovable aluminum against the pavement? who knows..
it still sucks, and call HPI tomorrow!

OUCH! Looks like it came down pretty hard on the motor. Is the other TVP also bent? You might take it apart and hammer the parts straight, but I would just replace them.

Have you checked the engine case real well? I know many a Savage before the engine guard landed on the head and it has been know to bust the case.

While this isn't really that big of a problem, I'm seeing pics just like this alot lately. The four cutouts under the engine plate just don't leave enough meat to handle supporting the whole truck in a rollover. If your engine head makes contact with the ground, this can happen with the stock X chassis. The larger cutout just allows all of that load to be transferred to that little section that you bent. I don't think this is really a blackeye to the X's overall image, but it is apparently a flawed design.

* Just a question for you X owners.... If someone were to produce a cheap and simple fix that would eliminate this possibilty, would you buy it?

Thunder, would telling this to HPI help? I mean I am pretty sure that they are going to tell me that I should've run it with at least the body on but I will call them just in case . Oh got any trigger words I should use?

I wouldn't offer up any confessions about not running the rollbar, but I'm sure HPI will take good care of you. I can almost guarantee you that they are WELL aware of this problem and it's causes.

I'm not doubting you,
but that sure seems like alot of damage for a wheelie flip.

sure you didn't break it coming down off a jump?
heard of the X in the side plate being a weak point.
Also, just posting to make this a hot topic.

About the 10th almost identical pic like that I've seen.. Definitely a design flaw - and yes it is retarded that the reason for it was that HPI could have that cute little X down there..
Or maybe they have a warehouse-full of tuning chassis plates they need to get rid of..
But what's REALLY ridiculous is that the new X SS kit is gonna' have the same worthless TVP's.. Bad enough a normal Savage should have that kind of problem - but an SS?? That IS a black-eye on the X and HPI...
