RE: lookin for some roll cages
To me they only create problems and are a waste. I run the X roll bar and engine guard on my 4.6SS and work fine for me. I have see some roll cages break parts where they mound and if you have to work on it is a real pain as well as raise the center of gravity. All the people I know personally that are series runners that had them no longer run them.

Looks good but I bet getting in to the radio box is a pain and does not look like the engine has any protection. [X(] Do believe the X roll bar and engine protector will give more protection.

RE: lookin for some roll cages
to get into the radio box all i have to do it take the 2 nuts off the shock tower and it lifts right up, with enough room to get in, believe it or not it protects it pretty good, when i put the body on, the engine doesn't hit. i put the fuel tubing and zip-ties on just a alittle extra somthing. as u can see the eninge has no scratches on it, and i have about a gallon and a half. but i can see that the x roll bars have alot more protection as it covers the whole top. i got this bar before the x came out

It depends on what you are doing with the truck. The RC Raven cage is actually a pretty good ROLL cage. If you like blasting across fields and stuff and doing high speed runs then they seem to hold up pretty. On the other hand, if you like launching off big ramps and playing on hills and stuff, they can show their weaknesses pretty quickly. The one Bennzyo5 posted is supposed to be better for that purpose.
I personally like the X style rollbar and engine guard, but the engine guard won't fit mine anymore [] so I'm looking at other options myself.

I agree with Chronic on this one, plastic is best IMO when it comes to roll protection, it gives, it doesnt break (easily) and at the end of the day what are you trying to protect? For me its the engine first priority then everything else...before the X bar came out I fabricated an engine hoop from a plastic (nylon maybe?) cutting-board...
Do you want protection, or do you want something that will...
a. bend,
b. maybe bend your truck where it mounts,
c. make your truck a pain to work on
d. add weight
e. hinder the fitting of bodies
f. all of the above...

It only looks like it pases over the engine in that pic, he actually has ample room to access the glowplug because the bar is centered on the truck and the engine is offset.

azzman, I've seen it in your pics before but I don't think I've ever commented on that bar of yours.... so, nice job!

RE: lookin for some roll cages
lol
You can not break cold rolled steel doing anything on a savge.
By mounting to just the center ,and rear your offering your front shocks, and shock tower 0 protection.
By mounting to the center ,your chances of bending something are much greater then by mounting in 3 places
Losten 2 screws the cage flips off like a car hood.
Every body will fit it ,WITHOUT having to butcher it like that plastic thing.
Yes it may weigh an ounce or two more, but for the increased protection, its well worth it.
What would prevent the plastic thing from bending the truck where it mounts?
The roll handle is the weakest point on the truck.
The cage IMO looks way better then any other fabricated contraption I've seen, and with the savage x engine guard, the protection is 10x greater.

RE: lookin for some roll cages
well, any metal cage will bend. rc raven has a warente about there cages, not if they bend but if they break at the weld they replace it for free
