A good friend went home today
Hi Gang:
Dan Crawford passed away today 4:49 NY time. His wife Sue is doing well and Dan, well let me say I will miss him dearly. He always some how made me fell good about my self. We never met face to face but I would at least talk with him a couple of times a week. My lord, it seems that 35 years old is just to darn young. I would like to thank all of you that had a chance to reach out to him in there own way and share a little love is what this hobby is all about. I will miss him dearly He went by the name turbinlover, always wanted to fly one but never got the chance, I hope there are turbines in heaven just for him
Dave

RE: A good friend went home today
That is very sad news, i just spoke to him a week ago and had sent him a old bvm F86 on tuesday that he was going to fly at florida jets. He told me the doctors gave him about a years time. I lost my mother in law to stomach cancer two years ago at the age of 44.

Dave - I will be doing the American Cancer Society "Relay for Life" (24 hr charity relay walk/run) again this year - May 5th & 6th, and would be happy to do a Luminaria in memory of Dan ; I'll check with you nearer the time to see if you want to suggest the wording for it.
You are also welcome to come down to San Jose and join us by walking a few laps for him, and/or stay for the luminaria ceremony if you wish.
Pass our wishes on to his family next time you chat with them.

I didnt know the guy but im sure he was a cool dude, to have so many friends and nice words said about him he must have been one of the nice people in the not so nice world. My thoughts go with his family and friends.
Im sure he'l be flying a jet now,

OK - my American Cancer Society Relay page is up : https://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg...upid=162718442 for our team "The Re-Lei'ers: Calorie Burnings in Bay Area for Make Benefit Glorious Fight Against Cancer"
The donations have been kickstarted with Luminaria for Dan (as well as for other of our lost jet buddies like Rich Fong, Ivan Munninghoff, and George Snoppy Allison).
If anyone else would like to join in with additional Luminaria, please feel free to do so via the above page.
Dave - I will PM you my cell phone # so that you can hook up with us during the event (May 5th -> 6th) if you wish - whether to do a lap or two for Dan, or just to watch the ceremony as the Luminaria are lit and the roll call of those who beat cancer, and those who were lost to cancer, is read.
That part of the event lasted about an hour last time, and is done around dusk (some pics from the last one are on my old thread : http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_27...tm.htm#2771823)

Luminaria: (From the ACS forms)
It's one of the most inspirational moments at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. It takes place after dusk during Relay For Life. The Luminari Ceremony offers everyone at relay the opportunity to pay tribute to those people whose lives have been touched by cancer. It is an opportunity to help in the fight against cancer with a donation and to honor someone in your life who has faced the disease. What is a Luminaria ? A Luminaria is simply a bag filled with sand and a small candle inside that makes it glow. Each Luminaria bears the name of a person who has battled cancer. Right before the Luminaria ceremony, we light all the candles. As they burn into the night they light the way for the walkers... a path of hope. Order a Luminaria for each friend or loved one who has struggled with cancer. You can salute a cancer survivor by pacing their name under "in honor of", or you can remember someone who has lost their battle by placing their name "in memory of". <snip>

Dave,
My heart goes out to you and Dan's family. Dan was an oustanding individual. I was fortunate enough to exchange various communications with him and on a couple of occasions, we tried calling eachother but never did manage to get in touch. At the age of 41, I am battling cancer myself and even still, I can't begin to imagine how much Dan must have suffered. I thank GOD that his suffering is over and to those closest to him, live not pondering on how he died, better to remember him for how he lived and the hearts and souls of those he touched. If there are turbines in heaven for Dan, may they never run out of fuel. GOD Bless his soul and his family, GOD Bless us all.
