RE: waterproofing servos
open up the back plate of the servo case. Run a bead of silicone along the edge of the case. Close the servo again. For extra protection: put the entire servo in a balloon. Then make a small hole for the output shaft. Put an o-ring over the output shaft to seal it from water. Then feed the wire out the opening of the balloon and put a zip tie around the end to seal it. You should also put a drop of silicone on the inside to make sure it is really sealed. Then you're done!

RE: waterproofing servos
Or take the back off and coat the electronics with dielectric grease. You can also seal the case and wire entry points with it.That's how alot of mariene electronics do it. Also some people dip the entire servo in a product called plasti-dip. That will seal everything with a plastic coating and it comes in colors too. I use the dielectric grease on my boats and it keeps everything dry unless the boat conmpletely sinks. But if that happens nothing keeps it completely dry.

RE: waterproofing servos
I held mine by the wires and dipped it in plastidip for a few coatings, then I cut of the plastidip covering the end nub, slipped an o ring on there, and then the servo horn.

On the pics it shows that you only dip the servo like 80 percent. Can't water still get in on the top?

I have been running in the snow. I tryed to put the servo in a balloon but it wouldn't fit (need bigger balloons). So instead I covered the seams in silicone and covered it with plastic wrap, works good so far.

RE: waterproofing servos
Baloons suck for waterproofing. They leak everytime I use them. The dielectric grease works best. Just like I posted above.
On the plasti-dip, you do dip the entire thing then carefully cut the plastic away around the splined shafr. As was already said above, some people then slip a rubber o-ring on the splined shaft before putting on the servo horn to help seal that area.
But the bottom line is, no method is perfect and if you start to get glitching from moisture shut the power down and let everything dry out real well.

Take the servo apart and put a light coat of grease on the electronics, around/in the case openings and around the edges of the case. You don't need a whole lot, just a thin layer on the electronics and enough to seal the openings. Then put it back togeather. You can get dielectric grease at most auto parts stores, Wallyworld and Radio Shack.

RE: waterproofing servos
its simple, take your servo apart and put a very thin layer that is just enough to cover the circuit and all around the inside of the servo box.

can u post pics? im kind of slow right now
can u post pics? im kind of slow right now
I don't have any pictures and honestly it's too much effort to go through since all my boats are already done and I don't intend to run my trucks in the rain and it's pretty unlikely that Atlanta is going to get any snow so I really have no reason to tear anything apart.
It's not difficult though so, slow or not, you should be able to figure it out if you're willing to put the effort into it. Otherwise I guess you can just keep cussing when your servos glitch...
