I'll be building one of these up with a DA85 in the next month here - there is another thread here on RCU where a 90cc engine is used.

I have one, and have been flying it for a year now. I use a DA-100, and the plane flies great. If you want to save a little nose weight, the DA-85 is the way to go. I still prefer the twin, though. Scott

What exhaust are you guys with DA-85's running? Stock, Cans? Which one and what mods on fuse were required (if any)?
I need to order exhaust for mine and was wondering...
Thanks,
Jason

using the slimline pitts that i picked up DA at the shootout . only clearance needed was about an eight taken off the bottom corner of the motor box. simple and gets the job done.

RE: Pacificplanes 35%extra 260 anyone have???
I have one with a 3W-106, my 106 has the new aluminum carb mount and the engine weighs 6 lb 6.7 ounces. As you can see in the picture I had to mount the batteries back as far as I could reach and also add 2 ounces of lead in the tail. All up weight is 28 pounds (scale has been verified accurate with calibrated weights) so the weight is dead on accurate. I also mounted a singe JR 8711 in the tail for rudder.

RE: Pacificplanes 35%extra 260 anyone have???
Here's picture of my battery setup. I also had to mount the tank aft of the wing-tube. This is all to balance with a 3W-106. When new lighter weight DA-100 comes out this spring I am going to sell the 3W and put a DA in it...

I built one with a da-100. Pretty easy build.
Have not flown it yet - matter of days...

Those with the DA-85 - do you have any shots of the component placement for CG purposes? It sounds like the folks with 100 twins have to put batts and stuff as far back as possible. With the 85 being lighter - very interested in your placement. Also which spinner are you guys running on the 85? Are you guys using a aluminum spinner or CF? I guess it would be about the same as the AW Extra so I'll do some digging on 85 builds there too since the planes are going to be pretty close...

The weight so far has been around 26.5lbs. I expect it to be 27lbs. when I am done.
I am using HS5955s all around, including two for rudder in the tail.
Power Expander and 2 batteries (A123) are in the back, on the pull-pull tray. Tank in front of the tube and ignition battery in the nose.

RE: Pacificplanes 35%extra 260 anyone have???
sorry no pics. Im using a no limitz fiberglass spinner , mejzlik 27-10 th carbon prop. Throttle and choke servos are just in front of the gas tank wich is in front of the wing tube.
EQ 10 and super reg just in front of rudder pull pull servo mount. Two fromeco two cell packs half way back in the bottom of the fuse. 8711 mounted in the tail for rudder. My plane with this set up flys pretty neutal inverted. Hope this helps. Rick

RE: Pacificplanes 35%extra 260 anyone have???
Final weight is now 26lbs. with DA-100 and all accessories - no wheel pants so far.
CG is a bit stretched as all three batteries need to be in the very back of the fuse tray, in order to reach proper balance (8-3/8in.). With pilot it should be just right.
I anticipate users of DA-85 to have an easier time balancing the plane and/or being able to use a pull-pull instead of two servos in the tial.

RE: Pacificplanes 35%extra 260 anyone have???
Ive got one with a bme 110 (now) It weighs about 25 lbs and floats like a feather in the wind. You cant hardly even get it to come down in an elevator without significant spoilerons on. Ive only recently been able to fly it 3d after having had significant issues with a bme 115. Im still tweaking it but it flies very nicely. Needed a bit of extra engine offset, has a JR 8711 single pull pull on the rudder which needs a bit more throw but is still very effective, harrier torque rolls easily. Ke snaps very clean, needed a little more aileron throw than I first anticipated. Now I just need to get more time on it DA 85 will be plenty. It's insane with the 110. It hovers at about 5-6 clicks above idle. The only nit picky issues Ive had are the canopy screws kept vibrating out, and were very hard to get lined up, so I just filled and retapped the canopy attachments for 10-24 screws. The canopy has never fit just perfect, it sticks up a bit in the back but it doesnt look too bad. The front wing attachment bolts can be a pain to get in getting around the gas tank and so forth but these are all very minor points.

RE: Pacificplanes 35%extra 260 anyone have???
Mine with the Torch 90 (smooth as a sewing machine) is near 24 lbs flat-no spinner no wheel pants. I fly from grass half the time and the wheel pants were cracking soon. If you use them from a rough field, reinforce for sure.
For the wing bolts, I replaced with plastic 1/4 -20 and only need to get my hand in the front for tightening, no need for getting a tool in there....it is tight.
I loosened the gearbox on a 2 inch stall out with slight side load. The gear attach points are now reinforced.
The 90 is on an AMT pipe and I am thinking of moving the pull pull back to a push pull in the tail as I have all batteries back and still need to hold for inverted flight.
I run one A123-2300 two cell to a Badger switch, to a power-expander sport. I get three - ten minute flights and put in around 950 mAh. I noticed on my last flight that the A123 was warm <120 degrees so the 5955's and 8711 on rudder are pulling some juice. Flight is crisp and the plane is a pleasure to fly.
Good luck with yours.....One more thing, where the ultra-coat sceme anywhere it comes to a fine point it has peeled on mine. I have gone over it with the iron and now am going back with small triangles of clear ultra coat to keep them from coming back up.

Richard,
Any pics of the Pipe routing in the bottom of the fuse? How long is that AMT? About 36-38" from exhaust on Torch to stinger on the pipe? I'm looking at the DA-85 on a KS1090 if I can get it wedged in there. May require some rework, but no biggie as long as I can get the CG to work...
It sounds like you skipped the spinner because of CG issues?
Jason

RE: Pacificplanes 35%extra 260 anyone have???
Sweet - I'll be starting my build shortly and will see how the KS1090 fits or what level of rework is required. There's some really good numbers on FG of a DA85 on a 1090 - so this should be fun.. The pipe adds more weight, but still less than a DA100 and with what looks like the same power level - just hoping it's not too peaky and I can get it dialed in...

http://www.rcshowcase.com/html/accessories/amt.html for specs on the pipe length.
I have since opened another bay on the fuse bottom foward of what you see in the pictures mostly for ease of getting in there and dealing with the securing of the pipe......also for more air exit. I will also enlarge the air exit on the cowl for more cooling.

Sweet - I was looking at mine today and there is tons of room... Not sure if I'll need to chop the motor box yet - still have to fit the stuff up...
