Default single smoke injector nozzle?????

Anyone running a single smoke tube injector nozzle with success? I have both, but it would be much easier in my patricular application to run just one....using a JC smoke pump......just wondering if I can get good smoke (enough fluid through one tube) with only one injector nozzle in the exhaust stream....will be using MDW Super Dri fluid....
Thanks.....

My Single Tam smoke injector is MORE than enough. It sucks the tank dry in no time. I cut it back a bit. I have the tam pump but any fuel pump will work with a controller. I use plane jane #2 diesel.

In my 2 jets i have following setups:

a) Boomerang XL, Sullivan skywriter pump, 32 oz tank, 1 tube injector> plenty smoke.
b) Fei Bao Rafale, Tamjets smoke pump, 2 x 12 oz tanks, 1 tube injector-> plenty of smoke (i was even able to align the single injector in a way to have smoke difused equally in both exhausts.

Hope this helps.
Regards

How do you guys get the smoke to ignite and pop and flame like I see in some videos? I saw it on the CA jets video, the jet was sitting on the runway and when the smoke was turned on the smoke oil lit and flamed for a second, looked pretty cool. .

I've only ever used 1 nozzle.

You flame the smoke fluid by drenching the exhaust with smoke fluid as you give the turbine full throttle. Don't do it that often though, its hard on the pipe. [:@]

flames are caused by injecting the fluid during the turbine spool up

If I spray smoke oil at idle it'll usually ignite, especially if I use a diesel/ATF mix. Not a good idea if you have a tailpipe, but since I have a Boomerang XLII I don't worry about the flames.

The flamethower thing is cool, especially if someone is shooting video down low right next to the tailpipe

Not a problem, the stab is about 2 1/2' away and the flame is only about 12"

Question:

How do you stop the nozzle from siphoning (sp?) when the pump is off. I have a TME Smoke system and when I shut it off, I can see a very fine mist being siphoned out of the nozzle.

I've seen this phenomenon as well, but it has been uneventful for my flying.

Maybe putting some sort of mechanical stopper in line that is switched with your smoke switch on your tx?

bend it to a slightly more acute angle helps. also you can pinch the tip more and up the pressure.

saw that on my elan too. it would suck the tank thru the pump.

make sure your cutoff valve is between pump and nozzle.

Put a mechanical Festo ball valve between before the injectors.

I use a check valve that requires a little presure from the pump to open.Same check valve used on piston engine smoke system to keep mufflers from sending hot gasses back into some system.
