Default DLE-55

Whoot whoot. Just found out Tower hobbies is stocking the DLE engines. They have a 3 payment plane on the 55 and 30cc
engines. Probably old news but made my day. [8D]

Next, DLE should keep the good points of the DLE 30 & 55 engines, but bring them out with rear induction carbs (reed valve) and rear exhaust ports.

Just take the stock spark plug and throw it in the trash and replace it with an NGK. Other than that, purrs like a kitten on my new SBach

Then you had better buy a couple more while they are still available. When this batch is gone there probably won't be any more if business goes as it usually does in China. The factory is probably building reclining chairs now.

Yep sorry, the CM6

Seriously, smash it with a hammer, don't even keep it as a spare.

Set the gap to 20 and if the needles are even close it will run like a top.

Agree I have read almost nothing but praise about this engine. I think it would be a great loss. I will try and bench run mine as soon as the cm-6 plugs come in that I ordered.

Just fired up my new DLE 55 yesterday and it sound pretty sweet. I was getting out of the box after tweaking the needles 7000 rpm on a 22X8 XOAR prop. Does this sound about right?

Zippy you are in the ball park with 7k. I have two and they both turned a hair over 7100 after tuning on the first tankful last fall. The air was rather cool. I was using the same prop as you. The weather plays a role in how much power you will get. It could be a bit more humid there which will lower your readings a bit. I find my readings will change each time I go to the field and will even change over the course of the day as the temperature and humidity change. We should both pick up some more rpm as they wear in. I haven't had my 55's out yet this spring due to the weather not being very good. Both of my 55's have more power out of the box than my DL50's did after a year of flying.

Yep, on my new DLE-55's 3rd tank I was hitting 7190rpm on a Hawk 22x8 on a rich 30:1 dino mix. A lot of people say you'll pick up 2-300 rpm when you switch to high quality 50:1+ synthetic as well. And yes, humidity and pressure do make a difference on the high end as well I've noticed.

MetallicaJunkie,

The throttle arm is the same one that my DLE 30 has. I had an extra one and it fit fine.

Super08,

I thought 7000 rpm was pretty good out of the box. The engine is very tight and after it's sat for a little bit it's hard to get started again. This should get better as I get more time on it. I was using 10-32 bolts on the stand-offs and I was informed that the thread size is 5mm X 8. Better make another trip to the LHS.

Sounds about right, mine did 7200 with a 22-8 Bambula prop.  <div>

I figured out why the engine was a little hard to start each time. It doesn't draw fuel very well from my gas can on the ground. I have had a lot of gassers on this test stand and this is the first engine that wouldn't draw the fuel that far. When I moved the gas can to the top of the test stand it would draw fuel fine.
