WD40 for ball bearing maintenance (serious)
My serpent impulse is up for its first big maintenance job. Cleaning and re-lubing everything goes fine, but what do I do with the ball bearings? Someone gave me the tip to just wash them out in fuel and spray them with wd40 and they should be fine.
Is this a good way to save my bearings, or are there better ways to do this?

RE: WD40 for ball bearing maintenance (serious)
Well,
Bearings are actually packed with grease. There are tons of different ways to take care of your bearings. But, I don't know about wd-40. If you are trying to clean your bearings out, and remove the grease to free them up then oil them Yes the motor spray will work but I don't recommend wd-40. I recommend using a bearing oil. I use Nif-Techs micro bearing oil. It is super ultra fine.
My cars drive train got so free when I did the following.
Took apart and blasted my bearings with motor spray, then let them sit over night. Then repeated the blasting process. Then let them dry. You will notice tiny little chunks of gunk fall out of the bearings. That’s dirt infested grease.
Then I reassemble and use the oil about every 4 runs on my bearings.
Grease is thick, so its actually slows the bearings down( a bit ). But there is a noticeable improvement by doing this.
But if you just wanted to re-lube your bearings. I still don't think WD-40 is the way to go. I would just use micro oil.
