I would like to begin my adventure into 33% and 40%, and am curious how you guys get your birds to the field.
Do you have trailors, if so what size and brand?
Suburbans? But a Suburban isn't long enough for a 40%, so do you hang it out the back?

I am looking for what different are doing and pick what might work best for me. All of your shared experiences are very helpful.

My brother and I have a 14 foot single axle wells cargo trailer 6 feet wide, It has rear ramp door and front side door with the extra 6 inch height option. Reason for single axle is it puts more loaded weight on the axle which gives a better smoother ride. Hence we got the biggest single axle trailer we could get but we also had to order it dealers dont usually stock anything above 12 foot in single axle trailers. with this set up with wing racks in front and places for stabs amd transmitters and fuel jugs etc up front, and a 2 layer system basically I took plywood and 2 x4 s and built a deck inside it we can get 4, 40% size airplanes and 2, 35 % size airplanes in it or combo of different planes. and we just use mini vans to pull it chrysler with six cylinder mazda MPV with 6 cylinder. but you do need air shocks for the van plus if needed planes can still go in mini van with all the seats out but front. I will try to get some pics in the next day or 2 and post for you to see the inside setup.

Thanks, the pics would be great. I was thinking of a trailer as it would be easiest and cheapest.

I used to carry my 33%'ers in the back of my Chevy S-10. However, that does get old. I finally bought a 5x8 trailer from CM Trailers. Has the torsion suspension and works well.

Hey there Woodscr, this topic has been covered with picts and all down in Tips and Tech. under Transporting Planes.

Bought a long bed pickup for my 36% Edge, then had to buy a trailer 6X12 with tall ceiling for the 37% Extras. a friend of mine has a Ford Excursion, and he can fit a 40% size plane, without the stabs. Too much work for me.

I have a Mercedes ML320 (which is a rather small suv) and i can fit a 1/3 cap 232, and a Roo (turbine trainer) in the back with the seats folded down. on top of that, I transport a 7' long t38 dtrapped to the roof rack ....

the cap 232 also fits well in my audi TT (small 2 seat sports car) with the pasanger seat folded forward. I can manage to fit a BVM f-16 into the back of this one also ..

I have thought of getting a trailer for my suv, but up to this point, i heve been fitting my aircraft in it and on the roof just fine ... maybee ill buy a trailer one day when i decide to build a giant scale bird ...

I could get my 33% Extra inside my Ford Taurus Station wagon, but when my cousin's son started going with me I needed room for another plane so I converted a tent trailer. See it on my web page here: http://www.********.net/pages/tmills/page4.html .

No problem with a 40% plane.

Roger, Very nice job! Well thought out. What are you using as the frame of the trailer? Is it a small boat trailor? I'm thinking of doing the same thing but having a hard time locating a small boat trailer for the right price.

Actually,
Its one of those small (cheap) Utility trailers I purchased at Canadian Tire (in Canada). I built the box you saw in the pictures and bolted it to the frame. I removed one leaf spring to make the ride softer. I also used 3/4" plywood to give it more weight. I then added the longer tong (not sure if its the right word) Last year I added the bigger wheels for the long distance highway speed.
In winter, I remove the tong to make it shorter and remove the wheels to make it lower, and park it in my shop, then it also acts as a work top. (its got to pull its weight).
