The grill looks great! What drew me toward the Dornier D1 was the big radiator up front. When Hawkins designed his D1 he made it out of brass and screen wire. It looked so cool!
Speaking of radiators, one job that repeatedly came my way at work was making radiators.
Not full size, scaled down fractional sized models for wind tunnel evaluation using scaled down cars.
Too bad I didn't bring some of those materials home. I never built a scale plane that required a radiator but I bet you fellows could make good use of that stuff.
These radiators were very well detailed and faithful to dimension.

Sounds impressive. What blows my mind is how all the old radiator shops have disappeared. I guess the rise of plastic radiators got them. I know the last time I needed a radiator I found a new one pretty cheap.

The back side is not nearly as pretty, I'll grab a phot in a while. While doing the grill I over lapped while glue set up and made a rear facing vent for the Fa 40-a and also in view is one of the Turbo Header adapters Gary made for it.
I tried to make an aluminum one but I couldn't get the threads to cut, the die just ripped the aluminum apart. This brass one was a piece of cake, from a piece of brass bar stock from Gary also.

speaking of radiators brings me to a story LOL LOL
back when I had my 47 Willys, I swapped out the flat head and put in a refreshed Buic 225 V6 Dauntless. what a good Jeep engine. my dad told me to have the radiator pressured tested. so I took it to the radiator shop. the guy tested it free. he laughed and said "for that thing to be that old and to hold up to 24 pounds of presser it's a good radiator". the next day I could not find my radiator cap. so I go back to the shop and the guy sold me a new cap. when I got home and went to put it on my radiator I noticed the sticker.,,,,,,,,,,, it read "4 pounds"
to add to that. years later I wondered if he took my cap, so I had to buy one.

Guys, you know I have wanted to build a SPAD. But I have a set of wings off my Edge 540 in great shape. if I glued them together it would make a span of 68". a nice size for my Saito 100 Twin. I could glue the wing together or make a new Root Rib so I can take them apart.
any hoo, it would be a winter project, it's too hot to spend a lot of time in my basement to start it now. I will give it some thinking.
