Default First RC for 8 year old son

So I want to get my son a electric buggy/truck for Christmas so he can come to the track with me and learn and play. I have let him drive my Nitro MT to disasterous ends. What would be a good beginner that will still fit on our local track?

Thanks for all the help.

John

I would go for a rc-10T, XXX-T or similar. put a spacer behind the trigger on the contol to keep him slower till he learns that brakes come in useful sometimes then as he gets better you can take it out. if he loses intrest you still have a decent truck to use for yourself or sell.

This may be too small for what you want but you could get him a Losi Mini-T and run regular batteries in it at first. It would be in sort of a beginner mode since the Mini-T is pretty darn slow with regular batteries. As he learns, you could pop-in a larger 6 cell rechargeable battery pack which makes it go a lot faster. And even farther down the road, a faster motor. About $149.99 for the Mini-T, $25-45 for the battery pack, and another $30 or so for the motor. Bearings and oil filled shocks coming soon.

I bought my Son an Evader for his eighth Birthday and he loves it. He races it on our local dirt track AND our asphalt road course.

Team Associated RC10 T3 is about as good as it gets. I have 2. One for me and one for my 7 yr old daughter. Everyone sells parts for these cars. They run great and will take a severe beating what more could you ask for?

I have to go with the RC10T3. Not too fast, not too slow and just all around fun!. My 9 year old has one and he loves it. It's also a platform that with a few mods here and there, can be a full blown race truck!

My 4 year old son uses my origional RC10T which s almost 4 times hs age... I turn the throttle travel down on him and put a stock motor in it. He does very well for a 4 year old at the track though he has a tough time seeng from the drivers stand. I'd probbaly go for ethier AE or Losi or whatever your LHS stocks parts for... If you are going to go AE, get the T4, not the T3 and replace the front bulkhead brace with the aluminum one. Reason being... My newbie neighbor rammed my T4 with his T3... This was prior to me replacng the front brace... I broke the bulkhead and brace and he cracked the entre chasss on hs... Mine was a simple $12 fix, even with the aluminum upgrade... His was a lot worse...

if you have the money get the Losi XXX-T, the car handles great and is easy to work on and is top of the line, i started at 7 with a Losi jr. T. If you start him with a nice vehicle it will help him learn better because the vehicle works better and so there will be less breaking of parts and such.
Anyway I hope he has the opportunity to enjoy this hobby as much as i do.
Good luck to him and You.
Ryan
