DIY hornet kit ..cheap
Well it started as an upgrade of an areohawk frame but the gear ration was not there so it never got off the ground.
so I ended up getting a main frame and gear from hornet stock as well. I am using an IPS direct drive tail ics 100 and 50 and just an AL boom, my own design of mounting the driect drive tail ( straight onto the headtsink).......and here is the result.
it flies well and is very stable
Oh and yes the servo mounts is an old CDR cut down )
costing in sing dollars) (1.7sgd:1usd)
CP kit from OS $100
body and gear $34 hobby shack
HH Gyro $150
Servos $75
ESC's $38
Tail assemb $22
Boom and rails $3.60
motor $15
6ch receiver $20
Tatal for a hornet direct drive tail version ( I call it Version 3 )
$457.60 complete not too bad since the kit is about $300 with just the basics here.
($268usd complete)
Running on 2 cell lipo 1500 mah, I get about 9 min from sym baldes and about 12 min out of home made flat bottoms
cheers all tele
final pic with Home made covered blades...

Man, that is WAY COOL! I was gonna attempt to build my own hornet from scratch, but chickened out at the last minute and bought a HB.. This project looks great though, makes me wish I would have built mine from scratch too..

no its very easy ..the hardest thing was setting up the TX for the curve and so on...I ended up getting a new TX because I am also flying Nitro now too.
Had this bird out in some fairly high wind the other day and it stayed flyable ( if you had quick reaction times
the new home made blades work like a dream 13-13 min on 2 cell lipo's!
cheers tele
