If you wanna save a couple bucks on an upgrade
So, after spending $8 + shipping for my main shaft collar upgrade and being very disappointed w/ it's performance, I'm feeling like a huge schmuck. I was in my LHS today and picked up a box of 4 axle collars for $1.27, and they work great. They don't slip, the set screws are big enough to reef down tight and don't feel like they will strip out if I burp on them like the $8 ONE does. Schmuck, shame on me for being a sucker

Gotta add insult to injury syco? j/k. I got it from some guy named Pierre. I shouldn't spread bad words bout him or it, it really was nicely machined, just no way it was gonna stand up to the rigors of my flying. It was too tiny.

Ya, it's the same idea as the one at helihobby, just has one set screw instead of 3. I don't even think taht one would work. They are too small to handle the forces applied

I have heard that silicone tube that holds the main shaft up is better for beginners, which is what I am, because it gives some cushion in a crash. What I did to mine is cut the silicone tube down below the swash to improve the cyclic response. After I cut the tube I then put a coat of CA around the top and then sprayed it with accelerator. I then put a few more coats of CA on to form a lip because the tube doesn't stick to CA very well. If you leave just a hair of space between tha silicone tube and bearing, and I mean literaly a hair, it will be friction less when in flight. The only problem with this is that if you want to take out the main shaft then you either have to pull the main gear pin out with a pair of needle nose pliers or cut the CA off. Its easer to pull the pin though. Although it may not look as good a the aluminum collar, it is lighter and really actually doesn't look that bad. Just don't over do tha CA, and DONT let it run into the bearing. The main shaft hasn't slid down one time and I have crashed it a bunch of times.

Well, I might try the one from helihobby if they were ever in stock again someday...ya, right. But for now the axle collar works perfectly. and a LOT cheaper.

my brother took the digi cam...otherwise i'd take a pic for you all.
Anyway, I cut the black heat shrink tube(silicon tube) down to about 1/8" high, yep really small like a ring.
Then I cut a peice of hobby fuel tubing about 1/4". Not sure what the inner diameter is, but it was transparent blue in color and I made sure to use the tube that has an inner diameter of about 1/2 the diameter of the shaft.
put the 1/8" silicon tube on the shaft first. this will contact the inner ring on the bearing below.
Then force-slide the 1/4" fuel tube next, but not down enough to wrap around the 1/8 black tube.
The fuel tube should just press on the black tube, not consume it.
viola! This has been working very well for me. I don't want to scratch up the main shaft by using set screws on the colars (sound like a ***** huh??)
Results:
-shaft doesn't fall through
-easy to take on/off (no tools)
-This will also allow for any heavy impacts getting from the rotor to the bearings...I guess :-)
