Titanium vs Stainless Exhaust pipes

Titanium vs Stainless Exhaust pipes
Most manufacturers today will recommend the use of stainless steel ( .007 - .009 ). It is more resistant to wet starts and will not wrinkle as titanium does. One note, although titanium ( .005 ) is used because it is lighter it is not favored by engine manufacturers because it can easily burn through and has been known to support further combustion in cases of severe wet starts. JetTech, Extreme pipes, GoldenWest Models, Tamjets all produce very well made SS pipes for general models as as well as one offs ( custom ).

Titanium vs Stainless Exhaust pipes
I heard of a titanium pipe catching fire
and burning it self. I remember the
guy from texas said he had a bad wet
start, the thin tail pipe started burning
very bright, and within seconds the
back have of the plane was destroyed.
This was years ago and I have not hear
any thing like this again.
Is this possible ?

Titanium vs Stainless Exhaust pipes
titanium is lighter (titanium: 4.6gr/cm3, melting point 1670°C, inconel: 8.5gr/cm3, melting point 1390-1425°C), more expensive and known to burn through more easily.
i do not know if the manufacturers use a thicker wall on titanium pipes, so the advantage would be minimized.
