hey everyone. My neighers and myself have an empty lot behind our houses and we are in the process of building a rc dirt track. Our problem is we know nothing about rc cars. What would be some decent durable cars for us to purchase? We are trying not to go over $125 or so. I guess we would want gas powered cars. They do run longer, correct? There will be about 4 or 5 of us racing. Do we all need different frequencies? We are not really sure how long this lot will remain empty so we are kind of cautious about throwing a whole bunch of money into these cars intially. Basically we want to sit outside, drink beers and race. Is there a good tutorial or anything to read with some answers to my questions? Thanks for any tips and help. -Dave

you cant really go over 125 for an offroad, well, my delphi indy car was 120 with charger and batt, great deal...but, if your going for nitro 125 is way under price, yes you need different freq for you to race, i would recomend the tower hobbies st-15, good truck, gas powered, and $199 ready to run

after doing a little reading, looks like we are probably better off starting with battery powered. I guess will just have to buy a lot of batteries.

$125 is not much at all for even an electric... i guess the best you could get for a stadium truck would be a rustler w\ an ESC... heres one for $140 [link]http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/628746.asp[/link] just wait a few days and the rustler fan club will roll in here and help you out but after that you still need batterys and a charger

i'd say that electric is the way to start. just make sure you buy good quality batts that will last, as opposed to many lousy packs that will pop. how about hooking up with your lhs (local hobby shop) and see what they have. if you buy trucks/buggies from them, they should have the parts support which is important. if you buy from tower and break anything, it can be troublesome to get thigns mailed to you

Thanks for the replies! How long should a good battery last? Been loooking at these cars. Seems like a good deal even though a little over what I wanted to spend. I'd rather spend a little more money on a durable car instead of cheap one that will be torn up.

If you stick with stock electric (27 turn armature, fixed timing) you won't need high end batteries, but stock electric is not the fastest and it won't take long before it gets old. With that said, keep in mind that a good stock electric motor will still be faster than the motor that is included with the duratrax electric RTR cars. What it comes down to is unless you buy used, it's not realistic to try to get in to electric or nitro off road racing for around $125. One thing you may want to take a shot at, get all your buds together and agree to all buy everything from the same place at the same time. A good shop will give an individual a nice break if they buy everything at once, so I would imagine most local shop owners would cut a nice deal for a big purchase like that. It's worth a shot anyway. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

im 12 i got a electric rustler nib with 2 1500 packs for 110 125 with shiping i bought a dudratrax pirahna peak charger for 50 dollars so i got into the hobby for 175 dolars and the rustler came with a duratrax sport esc and a tower hobbies 3000 series am radio and servos so it was a good deal but im saving for a brushless and lipo batts it should fly

no not electric!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! get a nitro...theres cost in electric that will add up quick,,,batteries...about $50 dollers for 3-5 depending on how good they are...then a charger and if u want a good charger thats anywhere from 50-150 and the motor will need new brushes and need the com cut atleast once a month depending on how ofter u drive....i love electric but theres so many hidden cost.......a nitro u buy u fuel and go when fuel gets low u add and keep driving...get a use nitro off ebay.

it comes down to electric has a higher start up price (for quality equipment that is) but nitro a lower start up price but ends up being more expensive(a gallon of fuel is lucky to last a month in my nitro and a gallon is $23 at my lhs).

bought this http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=36324 seemed like a good deal to get me started. my neighbors and I decided to go with electric because there are small babies in the neighborhood that go to be kind of early and noise would be a concern. I should have this one torn up in a couple of weeks. I am looking for 2 or 3 more similar cars.

Went to a local hobby shop yesterday and offered to buy 5 of the same truck and got no price break at all. []...So now that I've made a purchase. What are some of the first upgrades that most people make to their rigs?

I run 1 truck with a .15 engine a gallon barley last me a month thena gian I dont run my nitro nerley as often as my electric.
