Default bme 30% edge 540 with bme 50

What do you guys think about those two together? Good for 3D? Unlimited vertical?

Thanks

I'm putting one together with a BME 50. Haven't got the final weight yet because I don't have a good scale yet, but it looks like it will be under 17 pounds. I preferred the scheme over the Wildhare, but am wondering if I made the right move. Since I'm new the Giant scale, I probably should have stuck with a proven aircraft. There's tons of info on the Wildhare. As you can see, you haven't gotten much response to your question. Hope you hear from more people who have actually flown this plane. I'm a couple weeks away from the maiden. It does look good.

Here's a couple of links:

Should be a very good combo. I have a friend who has almost completed his and will fly it next week. I have seen the plane flown with the exact combo, and it performed beautifully. Go through a few pages of threads here, as I know I saw one on this plane a while back. The quality is very good, balancing CG was the only issue I can remember arose from the feedback on the thread. I think you are going to be very happy and impressed with your plane. Good lick.

You may want to research the below thread before foregoing this combo. I seen a thread on the topic of balancing the BME Edge, and they were coming in tail heavy, and over advertises dry weight numbers. (With the famed DA 50) I think this may be a 60cc bird, based on reviews. It could be done with a 50, balisting the nose with lead, move EVERYTHING to the front and so on.

My vote, If you have the frame, get a ZDZ 60 , if you have the engine (BME 50), go with the wild hare 28%. It has a longer nose moment.

I would guess that a 50cc engine is too small for a 30% plane.
I would expect a 4.2ci engine would be best.

You have bought a VERY good combination. Work to keep the weight up front and you will be a happy camper. I have a Brison 3.2 in mine and it really performs. The BME 50 has slightly more power than the Brison so you will be in good shape. Quality and flight of the BME Edge is excellent.

This plane flies very well on a 50 CC engine. The DA or BME 50 will be perfect. The ZDZ 60 would probably work OK too providing it does not add any more weight over the 50.

I have the Edge with a DA50 on a Slimline muffler. It flies extremely well, has unlimited vertical, continues to climb strongly even after 3 vertical snaps in a row.

Don't worry about the 50 not having enough power!

I would definitely do the mods I suggest in the threads above to keep it light though, and jam everything forward as you can . it is tail heavy! !

Mine weighs 16.5 pounds, but I have $250 worth of Carbon Fiber into it. It was 17.5 before I did anything.

desertpig,

what would you think of the 3w 60cc engine on this plane? Would it help for balancing the model a bit. I have no idea the weight difference between the da50 to the 3w 60.

Thanks

LeBlanc,

If you already have a BME 50, it will balance using that engine. You do have to mount the engine so the back of the spinner is at least 7 inches in front of the firewall. Mine is 7 3/8 and the cowl covers the first former. I used H9 motor mount and 1 1/2" standoffs to get it out that far. You will need to redrill the mounting holes, but it's not noticeable.

I can see that on the BME50 that the mounting area on the engine isn't at the back. It's like glow engines. Does the ARF edge come with the motor mount to mountthe BME50?

Thanks

No the ARF does not supply a motor mount. Hanger9 has a nice aluminum mount or you can use Great Planes.

The 3W-60 is a nice engine, I think it might be too heavy though. The 3W is a good pound heavier than the DA. I love the way 3W's run though.. a lot smoother than the DA but that extra pound will kill you.

What engine do you guys think I am better off with. Also in to balance the plane and make it hover at 1/2 or less. I will not take a DA nor a ZDZ because I will be making some observation on engines and all of my planes will all have a different company engine on it. So it's nothing personnel.
I am hoping that the bme 50 is a good engine for the edge. Hopefully it's reliable.

If any of you guys that as a bme 50 how well does it run perform ect...

Thanks

LeBlanc
