RE: crap car
I would say Duratrax because they have a stress tech warranty on most parts. The Nitro Evader St by duratrax is what I have and it works great for me. its a stadium truck.

No no no...Duratrax would fall in that catagory of "crap". But yeah, what are you using right now? Is it nitro, electric, on-road, offroad...? And what do you plan doing?

RE: crap car
just read your other post. if i understood correctly you have a Smartech Winner 1 (??) 1/10 scale buggy. now i'm not saying the car is not crap but you stated you had no idea what was going on with the car in the other post.
what makes you think it's crap?
-handling: if it's anything like the RTR truck i started (traxxas s-maxx) with it may need to be adjusted at all toe and camber points. sometimes these things are put together quite poorly from the factory. all the adjustments on my truck when i got it were way off. this was from traxxas so i can only assume that smartech is probably a little worse.
-engine running poorly: once again the factory settings may be way off. you could be running extremely rich or lean. causing the engine to not run any where near it's potential.
-radio system: most RTR cars come with shabby radio gear. maybe the gear just needs to be slightly upgraded for better steering and throttle/brake responce
do you know anyone that has any experience with RC cars at all? if so try to get them to help you, or bring it to your local hobby shop and see if they can help. don't give up on the car or the hobby to quickly. since i got into nitro RC i have had great fun with friends and these cars.
once again i'm not saying the car isn't a POS.. just that it may only need a little TLC to get it where you want it. if the car is junk, use it to learn how to drive and make adjustments then bail on it and get something better. why spend big money on a car to wreck.

Duratrax isn't crap, and they aren't high-end either. Their Nitro evaders are pretty good entry level vehicles. Tough with a good warranty.
If you're willing to learn and suffer through some frustration, get nitro. If you just want to drive, an electric is probably better for you.
Don't worry about anyone's categories, the big names in RC are HPI, Associated, Traxxas, Duratrax, and Losi. (Hope i didn't leave someone out) You can't really go too far in the wrong choosing something from these guys. Find a vehicle you like from one of them.
A good thing to do before you buy is go to your lhs and find out what they have a good part selection for.

RE: crap car
No car is technically crap. Just made for specific aspects of R/C. Duratrax, Traxxas, Smartech, HPI (offroad) are based more towards the bashing world. Losi, HPI (onroad), AE, Tamiya (onroad), XRAY are all based more towards the racing world. I'm not saying that they would perform good in the other aspects, just not up to par with cars designed for the particular part. If you tried to race a Duratrax against a AE, Losi, offroad it would most likely lose. If you tried to jump an AE, Losi off a building, VS a Duratrax, the Duratrax probably will win. Cars are designign for different thing, Plain and simple.

RE: crap car
Really????? I have an Evader BX Pro, and I went up against a team losi and hosed it. Don't deny something beacause it is inexpensive. The evader is based on the xx-t and I am sure you all were extolling it's virtues because it was Losi. It is less a matter of the vehicle but the driver behind the stick. I admit if your car is completely outclassed then you will lose. Get real just because it is expensive doesn't mean it is better.

RE: crap car
I have a evader bx, and its awesome. Very durable, quick, good run times. I was able to buy it for $90 to $95 NIB shipped on ebay. One of the better purchases ive made.
