CA Model 31% Extra tail support
I am building a CA Model (Colombo Anderson) 31% Extra and the instructions call for tail support wires. I have seen pics of several of these at 31% and 34% and can't see any tail wires. Are people using these wires or leaving them off? I don't mind putting them on if they are necessary. Thanks!
PS....the kit is excellent, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired

Lotto....those are built up surfaces as opposed to flat surfaces? If you decide to use flying wires let me know as i have some already made up that you might be able to use?

Thanks Ryan. I might just install the hard points and monokote over them. That way I can add the wires later if I change my mind. I just don't remember ever seeing one w/ the flying wires attached.

We have had many of these planes, none had wires and none have had any problems. If you are planning on doing nothing but violent 3D, put the wires in and DEFINITELY replace the Anti Rotation (A/R) pins with Carbon Fiber, the crappy wood ones in the kt WILL FAIL.
If you are only flying IMAC with some occasional 3D like hovers, harriers, rollers, etc - the wireless / stock A/R pin design is fine.
If however you have not installed the A/R pins yet, by all means - get some Carbon Fiber or Arrow Shaft (Fiberglass) and do it right!!

RE: CA Model 31% Extra tail support
Thanks guys!
I didn't think the a/r pins would be anywhere near sturdy enough so I replaced the dowels w/ 1/4 brass tube and epoxied the dowels inside the tube. I have used this setup before, and it has held up very well, although I like the c/f idea too. I am just going to delete the tail wires for now but put in the hard points for later...Thanks again

Thanks Furloughed your plane looks great, can't wait to finish mine now....Did you get recalled yet? I came back Nov 1st and it is having a very negative impact on my r/c playtime.

[8D] Did you use pull-pull on the rudder or are the servos in the rear? Did you install smoke and if so where did you put it?. I noticed your landing gear is black. Is it carbon fiber? If so where did you get it? One last question. Did you have to add weight to balance it out?
I hope this isn't to many questions. I just want to do it right. Thanks [sm=drowning.gif]

pull- pull on the rudder with the servo in the rear of the tray.....graphtec gear (about 1.5" taller....with 24" prop on standard gear, 1" prop clearance.....no problem if you 3 point it every time and take off tail low)....no smoke.......no weight added....balance acheived with batteries......
