ok so im new and i just got used revo. i dont trust how the motor was broken in. it was a kid that i baught it from. it was cheap. only 225. so im thinking there is something wrong with it. it starts up and runs good but i want to buy a new engine that i can break in myself and know what the engine has been through. the thing is....i dont know how to break in an engine and i dont know what i should get. any comments???

Yeah, keep that motor and run it till it dies then replace it. That will give you time to get some experence with nitro and your Revo. By then you'll be better able to tell what to expect from the truck and motor and decide what you want it to do.
After all, why practice on a brand new motor if you have a decent, running motor to learn to tune on. You're already planning a new motor so make your newbie mistakes on the one you don't plan to keep. Besides, the 2.5r is a good motor and if you can learn to tune it, you can tune anything.

I agree with DaveG. Learn on the one that is already there. By the time that one goes you will have all the tuning blues learned and you will know what you want to do with your Revo. If you really want to get a new motor. I would go with an OS .18 TM or the OS .21 with the BB conversion kit from Traxxas. As for break in just follow the direction that come with the New motor. Hope this helps some.

man could not have said any better. the 2.5r can take some overheating before it's done. word of advice the 2.5r likes to run hotter then other engines. don't be afraid to lean it out a bit. if starts cutting out you have gone to far and need to richen it up. i have a few ppl here that always come to me asking me the i aint got a clue. so i fire up mine and show them the difference between too rich and too lean and how they sound and act like. so it will take some heat.

thanks guys. also what is the optimal temp for a motor. and what is bad?

the optimum heat range is 250 to 275 Deg. Anything lower you may cause damage due to not getting hot enough to heat the oil's in the fuel to proprely lube the motor. Any thing hotter you may cook the motor. IMO it you get it hot once or twice it won't hurt overall just the way you learn. I have had mine at 320 and still run's great after I retuned.
