nitro engine on tube chassis?
Hey ,
Could I use a nitro engine on a brass tube and silver solder chassis without it falling apart? I am worried about vibration.
Thanks
Ethan

did you build the chassis? post some pics. Solder can fall aprt if there is too much stress applied. If you have a mig welder or a light arc, run a bead around all the connections.

no it is not built yet. I am designing the chassis, and am deciding on a powerplant. I can't weld it because I can only use a stick welder. My question is, do you think the solder joints (silver) can hold up to the vibration of a nitro engine.
Thanks

RE: nitro engine on tube chassis?
it's hard to say without trying it. Solder holds together pretty decent and is fairly temp resistant up to a few hundred degrees. I actually used some solder to hold some copper ends on my roll bar that i made nad it has held together quite well for a few months although there is not a huge amount of stress.
I think as long as you use some soldering paste and good quality solder, you should be fine. And if there are any specific joints that seem to have too much stress on them, you can always solder, then drill a small hole where the 2 pieces overlap and stick a small nut/bolt or a pin in there to hold the pieces from slipping.
Shold work ok I would think, Only one way to know for sure though...
Update us with pics when you get started.

RE: nitro engine on tube chassis?
melt welding metal- Wouldn't work really. The metal couldn't burn into the base, and would just kinda be sitting there in droplets. Unless your talking about brazing, which I don't want to do if I don't have to.
Thanks

RE: nitro engine on tube chassis?
Since I don't particuraly want to build the chassis just to have it fall apart when I run the engine, I mav use TVP's For the part of the lower half of the chassis where the engine is mounted. Then i'd build the rest of the chassis from brass tube. I should be able to keep it pretty realistic that way.
