is it common for the emaxx to burn out the clutch/flywheel??
hi all.. im totally new to the rc scene, and decided to pickup a used emaxx off ebay.. this thing turned out to be really clean and quite the sweet deal, tons of fun and two great bashing sessions already.. however i went to use it today (only the third time running batteries through it) and the motors simply spun with the truck barely moving forward..
i tried to adjust the slipper clutch as per the owners manual with no difference what so ever.. i then proceeded to remove the black cover where the heat sink in front of the motors is.. inside i found lots of small black shreds of plastic.. after seeing this i removed the nut, spring, clutch and flywheel... upon investigation i found the clutch to be all black because plastic is now melted on to it which i can barely remove with my fingernails... the flywheel is completely worn down where the clutch was rubbing and apparently heating the hell out of it (this area also appears to have small red pins or something that are nearly destroyed)...
so i guess my question is; is this a common problem or did some larger problem cause this? also where can i get the parts needed to fix this?? i wanna bash the hell outta this thing again.. wayy too much fun lol
thanks for any help!!

Your hobby shop will cary the parts... Sounds like you shreded your friction pegs.. About $5.00.. Thes slipper could have been loose which caused your problem.

Hey don't put yourself down because you are new to the scence. Heck my 6yr old son got me back into this hobby and i forgot how much fun these are.
The emaxx is a awesome electric monster truck.. I love mine.. Sounds to me you ruined your whole slipper clutch.. I am guessing what you call a flywheel is the slipper plate. How is your spur gear? That is the black gear that both motors sit on.
The hobby shop will have all of your parts.
Here is a link to a picture of your emaxx tranny to get the right parts: You can click on the part and get a price from traxxas. http://www.traxxas.com/products/elec...usp_tranny.htm
I have mine geared with 12tooth pinion and a 66 spur.. A lot of torque and speed. Mine has been raced at my local track..
A good tip to let you know is put a piece of foam under your speed control and screw it down otherwise it might break on you.. I brove a EVX from shock.. Since i put foam under the EVX speed control i have had not a problem.. it is common. My buddy had it happen to him befor the foam.
Also you can run 7 cells in the emaxx and gain 5mph.
Any other questions don't hesitate not to ask..

les 222: thanks a lot for the info, extremely helpful... i think what i have been referring to as the flywheel is indeed the spur gear.. it is toasted, appears as the slipper clutch ate about half way through it. looks like i'll pick up a new spur gear and slipper clutch assembly and hopefully be back on track..
anyone have places online i can pick up these parts from?? hobby shops around here seem non existant to me lol..
the emaxx is def tons of fun, i had no idea how addicting these toys can be... im 24 years old and now everytime i pass a park or any cool looking terrain i tell myself that i need to come back hit it up with my car hahaha.. cant wait to get it back in action and break some more parts!!! thanks again
~Paul
edit: just realized i can get the parts needed right from the traxxas website noted above.. parts on their way..

You can also get the parts from ebay... Most of the time they are cheaper that way...
When something breaks i also look for the aftermarket part which usualy ends up to be almsot industructable.
The emaxx will break: bulkheads, a-arms, drive shafts...
Once all that is fixed it usually runs like a charms and things do wear out after time.
As far as my age goes i am 31yrs old....
I feel like a kid again, but with a high performance tuning R/C machine..
Have a nice day... any more help just hit me up...
