University Expirement Please Help!!
Hi,
We have a uni assignment based i) keeping a paper-plane in the air for the longest period of time ii) making the plane travel the furthest distance from the launching point. Now the problem we are facing is that we dont know how to pop the baloons in the air after a certaind period of time (the longer the time the better, as it would allow our team to win). We cannot go to a firework shop for further assistance because they do not exist in QLD because fireworks are illegal. Could anyone recommend anything? or give as any assistance in making a wig of some sort?
We live in surfers paradise, so it would have to be somewhere local where we could go to buy the material
It would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

RE: University Expirement Please Help!!
Here is my idea.
1: Need to make a light weight luanching pad of some sort, with a bottom that opens when pulled by a string, maybe a thin cardboard box material.
2: You need a big balloon, or a bunch of balloons that can go high enough to the height you want and lift the box and the paper plane. You attached the launching pad to the balloon. Then you attached a string (kite strings) to each corner of the launch pad (4) and 1 to release the plane. The longer the strings the higher the balloon can go up. you need one to each corner so you can control the position of the pad up in the air, you can make it face to any direction.
3. Once you reached a good height, then you tug the string to release the plane. You can even measure point of release height just by measuring the length of the string.
We have a similar contest / experiment before when I was in college. But the challenge was for the longest distance travelled and longest time in the air, everyone will have same size paper and will be launched on the same height which was top of the building.
Hope this helps, Good Luck!

i remember a toy called the "Airzooka". its a big hollow plastic barrel with a handle, pull the thing in the back and it shoots air for about 20+ft. its awesome, it should keep your plane in the air. i like the idea of your experiment
