Default Low Height Oscillations

Hi All,

I've been flying indoors the last few days trying to get the controls down for my DF. I'm getting pretty good to where I can turn the DF so its facing any direction and still hover pretty well. I do have two questions though.

First, I've noticed that when I give the DF enough throttle to stay off the ground but not much more, it slowly goes up and down from around 2 ft off the ground to almost touching the ground. Is this all because of ground effects? I thought I heard after 18 inches there is no more ground effects. I haven't taken it much higher than around 2 or 3 feet indoors to avoid running into things. Maybe once I start hovering up higher this will go away. I thought i remembered seeing that someone on here could hover around 2 inches off the ground pretty easily.

Second, why do our DFs need Ti? Why are the gyros not enough to keep them balanced? It seems like the gryos would be more accurate than Ti anyhow. Just curious.

Yes, I can hover inches off the ground but constant correction is needed to do it. Ti is what maintains a level without pilot input, like an autopilot. It constantly governs the gyros as you would if Ti was off. All the gyros do is to maintain your last input.

Sounds like my DF is just fine then. And once I took it outside and enabled Ti, it stayed at the exact height with hardly any input. Its amazing how much different Ti makes flying this thing. I'm able to hover a few inches off the ground now as well (if I keep the orientation of the DF the same at least) and it does indeed take constant throttle input to get mine to stay at the same height. I really just need to move the throttle up a notch then back down a notch over and over again to anticipate the osicillations of the DF. I did find that I can adjust the trim to get the oscillations to be smaller though.

I found that nice flat blades eliminate the oscillations with or without Ti. I purchase a 20 pack of blades, quite a few are curved...when I use the curved blades I find I need to compensate as suggested. With nice flat blades it flys wonderfully without issue. I think these "plastic?" blades are a little too flimsy as they curve with any additional weight (I want to carry a camera), once bent the DF acts like a yoyo unless you constantly compensate. I have ordered carbon fiber blades which I am sure will eliminate the issue (gulp, I hope, they're not cheap!).

Where do you buy CF blades? What camera are you hoping to fly? Pentax Optio S7?

I ordered the CF blades from RC-PLAY Innovations in Germany. I have a small Canon power shot (3.7 oz) that fits nicely next to the battery - it balances well and I am able to fly it but it does cause blade flexure which leads to lack of control.
