Default Loctite

I have been using blue loctite on the muffler (pitts style) for my Taurus 4.2 and after about 10 flights it keeps coming loose. Was wondering if Red loctite would be the way to go here?

Thx,
J. Salmons

There are many grades of Loctite....Green is the strongest and resists the most heat....Don't rely on "conventional wisdom" here, go to the Loctite website....
Try 620 and 680...

With the heat involved at the exhaust port of a gas engine I don't think any chemical thread lock will do the job for you. Every Loctite product I've used (including red) will soften and release with the kinds of temperature and vibration found near an exhaust port on a gas engine. I think you're looking for a mechanical thread lock. Have you tried a split washer? Maybe lord washers?

i use red RTV gasket maker. Just coat the bolts with it and along with a lock washer and I have never had one back out until I tell it to

Green Loctite. Sleeve and Bearing Retainer. It's used for sleeving cylinders in automitive engines. It won't come loose unless you take a propane torch to it and heat the snot out of it. I've snapped the heads off bolts before when trying to take them loose. [:@] Thats where I learned to use the propane torch for removal.

If your cylinder gets hot enough to loosen the green 620 or 680 Loctite you won't have to worry about loosening bolts...You next worry will be about the price of a new cylinder and piston..
From the website===Disassembly-- Apply localized heat (250C)..Disassemble while hot..
250 C is 482 F
From conversion tables...F = 9/5(C) + 32

I have never had one come loose using RED loctite and ultra copper as the gasket...discard the paper gasket as it causes problems.
The only muffler i had come loose had red gasket sealer on the bolts and used the factory gasket and after cleaning it up and using the 1st method was fixed
