Hawkflyer

I just bought a second hand Avonds Rafale. It does not have a rudder fitted, which is not a problem here in Australia but as I am going to repaint it I am considering adding a rudder.

Has anyone got any advice to offer , is it worthwhile/can I takeoff and land in a crosswindwithout it / type of servo etc ?

I am also concerned about how close the servo leads will be to the tailpipe (probably about 2 Cm at closest point). The tailpipe is single walled but wrapped in a ceramic blanket and aluminium tape.
