RE: Colored smoke?
The problem folks run into with fabric dye isn't that it won't colour the smoke...it's that it colours everything ELSE too...the airplane, anything the smoke particulates settle on (including cars, other airplanes, people), and even the runway if the smoke is on during a takeoff or low pass.
This problem is then combined with limited availability in small quantities, and, last but certainly not least, some airly high toxicity in many cases.
In short, yeah, it's doable...but consider this...except for wingtip mounted "smoke bombs", even the professional airshow folks stick largely with white smoke. I asked one "why?" once...his answer? "The coloured stuff stains everything, costs a fortune, and kills grass and animals."
*shrug*

RE: Colored smoke?
To date, I have never heard or seen anyone successful at producing colored smoke by using smoke oil in an RC piston plane. Only way I know of is to use the above mentioned smoke cartridges.
Has anyone out there ever "really" had success????????????? I would like to know so I can try..

Pat,
if you try these cartidges do a report for me as to how you installed them and how well they worked. I have been considering them for various planes but just never got around to getting them.
Cheers
