Default Covering Over Open Areas

I need to cover a built up stab. It is an ARF that was repaired. I is covered in Monokote, and there are 2 colors joined over the open areas. The leading edge is 1 color, and further back it changes to another color.

My question is how do you join the two pieces of monokote to cover the stab when the joint occurs over open bays of the stab? Every time I try, the pieces separate when heat is applied.

The easiest way to do this is to join the two pieces together before you apply them to the aircraft. Use about a 1/4" overlap of the two colors, apply the dark color on top of the lighter color. You can seam the pieces together with either trim solvent or a warm iron. Make sure to leave excess around the surface you are covering so you have something to hold on to. When you shrink the covering don't apply heat directly to the seams.
