Default Mini Smoke System

Am in the process of installing a smoke system in my SU26 50cc. I thought that the pump that I am using may be of some interest to you guys especially if you are inolved in a weight saving exercise. It weighs less than 0.5 ozs. and consumes 0.2 amps @6v.
I have bench run the system and it woks well using water based smoke fluid, 5 x AAA battery pack and a very low cost speed controller.
Here are some pics.
Mike.
Ooops !! 2 too many, sorry.

Hi Mike. Keep us updated. I will be interested to know how it works out.

I do have a couple of questions.

What "water based" smoke fluid are you using?

Is that glow fuel tubing? I have always had to use hi-temp neoprene tubing between the exhaust connection and the check valve.

Hi
The tubing is silicon for glow fuels, I have used this because the fluid is water based and it is also high temp so that it will not suffer being connected directly to the
Zimmerman cannister smoke nipple.
The smoke fluid is Glycol based which produces smoke that has no residue or detrimental effects on our model finishes. Also, we are able to get it to produce colours other than white.
Will get some pics when the plane is flown but I have 3 or 4 weeks work left to do.
Hope this helps.
Mike.

Don't know that I'd want to use a glycol based smoke fluid. Some of them are nasty. Based on about 6 different MSDS sheets for various glycol products about the only safe one is propylene glycol. Breath enough f that and you'd still be stuck sitting on the crapper for awhile.

However, I am curious as to how that pupm would work out with Super Dri. It's a lot more viscous than water and requires a pretty good pump.

I noticed you mentioned being able to produce different colors of smoke other than white. Please let us know how that turns out !! If other colors are possible, this will be a fantastic invention for a gas eng !! As far as I know, only a turbine eng. is possible to produce colored smoke !!
Thanks !!

Hello John
Fluid is available here to produce red, blue, green and yellow smoke, but there is a downside.
The powerful colourants used tend to cause unacceptable levels of staining to all that the smoke contacts making it very difficult to remove.
We also have various fruit "flavours", that can be added to water based smoke fluids to make the smoke smell very pleasant !!
