Hi David,
Thanks for the photo. When i got his model it came with a markings set that had h#that same colour scheme only the yellow was white. Thats what got me started on the whole idea of doing it Jolly Rogers. Almost as if what would have happened if this squadron kept just one cougar
I thought I might as well take those pics I promised while I am prepping for a show tomorrow. Sorry they are so late

Al,
Very nice work on the door hinging. Are the hinges 'embedded' into the composite skin - they look like they are some how?
Whilst your 'preparing your Jets' for a weekend of flying I am 'steaming vegetables and preparing meals' for little fella

No these hinges are just cut and glued in. Nothing as complicated as embedding them into the skin here

Thank you for the pictures. That gives a good idea how to do it easy (more or less) and reliable. It looks like you pretty much like the match-Boxes. Ever thought about a Powerbox champion? Or did you buy them in hundreds and need to get rid of them?
I like the photo-recon nose on the -8 cougars. I thought of pimping mine, but I would be running out of time (as I already do..).

This is not a scale color. As my painter calls it.. a dream scheme. Something I jut thought might look ok on a Cougar.
I have been doing some remedial work to the Cougar after its little issue of flutter. I started to put the same set up back in but with metal arms and then I thought !QUOT!STOP!QUOT! The problem was obvious. The builder had installed the control horn way too close to the hinge itself. This meant that the mechanical leverage was very poor. This is probably what started the flutter that caused the servo arms to strip. After much head scratching I decided to go with external control horns and linkages. I know this isn't scale but neither is much else on my particular model. it was just meant to be a nice looking scale sport jet, so I figure that some external linkages wont do too much damage to the aesthetics. I did look at repositioning the control horn that was already fitted to get it further away from the hinge but the way it was installed made the pretty impossible. Oh well
When I have my camera tomorrow I will post a pic of the mod.

The issue has been discussed by the judges at Top Gun and their position is that the paint scheme looks like it could have been on a full scale aircraft, so they will allow the full static points for this fictitious scheme.
The reasoning is that Pro Am is a flight competition for scale aircraft and not a competition about scale correctness.
Personally I think it takes some of prestige from Top Gun that it's OK to fly ARF non-scale jets in any of the classes, but it is up to the pilot if they want to create their own "scale" scheme. All they have to do is publish a drawing of the plane on the Internet and it is thereby an officially approved scale model. No major rules were broken. Just circumvented a bit. The rule book specifically states that the subject must be of a full scale aircraft, but the judges have the final word in the matter and this is their view in this case. On the other hand, with today's digital technology everyone with a computer can make their own realistic looking documentation and it would be impossible for the judges to know every plane out there in order to be able to tell if the scheme is fictional or real.
