what does the boost bottle do?
what does the boost bottle do?
Single cylinder engines or engines with single carburators per cylinder typically suffer from some sort of reversion. This happens because the air has inertia from when the engine is on it's intake stroke, but it hits the now closed intake valve and bounces back through the carburator, drawing fuel out the venturi on the way out, just like Eddie said. The volume in the intake manifold and the distance between intake valve and carburator dictates the RPM and the severity of the reversion. It's important to note that this reversion only happens during a narrow RPM band, and adding a whole lot of volume to the intake manifold will radically change the way the engine runs.
The boost bottle might have a small effect, but whatever effect it has will be limited by the teeny little orifices the air would be trying to pass through: that little hose and the even littler nipples are going to seem MIGHTY small compared to the big open carburator, and we all know air will take the path of least resistance. Also, the engine is only breathing in .18 ci in 200 or so degrees, so for the remaining 160 degrees you've only got to absorb at MOST .144 ci, and assuming the hose is 1/8" inside diameter the hose only needs to be 11.75" long before the hose itself is capable of absorbing that pulse of air, and the boost bottle itself will do very little. Furthermore, if that .144 ci is passed through an assumed 1/16" inside diameter nipple in 160 degrees of engine rotation at 30,000 RPM, the air would have to move at a speed of 4,397 ft/sec, or nearly 3,000 miles per hour (mach 5-ish, depending on the temperature and pressure). Once air gets to around mach 1, it doesn't really matter HOW much pressure you put behind it, it's not coming out that hole any faster.

RE: Taipan Extreme drifter project
Ok, so adam is asking about the drifter and the drifter project so here is an update to the drifter. I'm waiting to get some A-Arms so I'm not putting these parts on till I get them in a week or so, but here are the new parts that are going to be going on the car in a few weeks. We have Aluminum Servo Saver pitman arm(conects the servo saver pieces), Aluminum Servo Savers, but will get that up asap. ALuminum shock towers, aluminum linkage holders, aluminum body posts, aluminum pivot ball hubs and aluminum tie rods.

Funny you mention nos...cuz from RB innovations you can buy a nitrous injection kit for R/C cars. You can also buy RC car sized superchargers for many different R/C engines. In teh event you needed even more bling, of course

I know it's been a while, but it finally cooled off enough to work comfortably in the garage without the A/C window unit trying to keep up.
Anyway, there has been some changes. I ditched the infinity .18 for an STS Dragon 12 Onroad Bump Start race engine with a One piece Rear Exhaust Turbo pipe set for RTR3 from RD Logics.

and a custom linkage adapter for a slide carb engine. All the aluminum upgrades available except for the A-arms(still working on that one) are installed. Powder coated screws and parts are pretty cool looking. Pictures will come soon in the next few days.

Not sure if were even going to drive it yet. Might just be a shelf queen, for people to see what they can do to the cars. Thinking about leaving the body clear and putting some of Kupplers lights in the body. That would be cool.

RE: Taipan Extreme drifter project
ya, i'll be getting upper and lower front and rear in a month or so, maybe less. have more important stuff to buy right now.
well I took some pics with my phone, but I wasn't happy with the way they looked so i'll take new ones and post them as soon as I can. looks pretty sweet with the clear lotis body with stickers on it. linkage was a hassle to get it working right but it is working good. gonna look confusing in the picture, but maybe I can edit it with some neat arrow and test to explain it, lol.
